Burn Notice reuniting Cagney and Lacey this week - UPDATE

Based on the previews showing Strickler asking Michael to turn on Fiona, the summer season finale of Burn Notice promises to be a bang-up episode. Especially after Fiona walked out on Michael last week because of his obsession with getting back in the intelligence community, i.e. getting the burn notice lifted. However, amid all those hijinks will be a reunion that many, many fans will be tuning in to see -- Cagney and Lacey. That's right, Tyne Daly is guesting on Burn Notice with her former partner Sharon Gless, a.k.a. Michael's mom.

It's taken more than a year for the powers that be to swing this casting coup, and not surprisingly, they've saved it for the season finale. I'm just hoping that they've found a way to weave it into the main story and not make it just a silly subplot, because Daly and Gless deserve a showcase.

These are two of the most beloved, and honored, TV actresses ever. From 1983-1988, the actresses took turns winning the Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Cagney and Lacey. The chance to see them together on screen again warrants more than some comic cutaways.

Here's my idea for the reunion: Tyne Daly's character appears to be an old friend of Madeline's there for a visit, but in fact she's connected to Michael's burn notice and has been sent to evaluate the situation. It's all a ruse so she can observe him in a pressure situation that she's created by getting Strickler to force Michael to choose between returning to his old job at the cost of arresting Fiona for her past terrorist ties.

What do you think? Any ideas about how Tyne and Sharon should be put through their paces this week, along with the Burn Notice team?

UPDATE: This just in from USA Network Publicity: Tyne's episode will not be next week as reported in EW. The Daly-Gless reunion show is going to be the second half premiere in 2010.
