(S05E21) I'm happy to hear Cat announce that the filler in this episode would be the four Emmy nominated performances. It would actually be interesting if next season they could try a "Where are they now?" segment on the results shows. The eliminations weren't shocking to me, but watching Cat announce that Jeanine and Brandon were the two that didn't have to perform solos was a relief and a pain. They had the best performances last night.
Group Performance
"Send in the Clowns" – Judy Collins (Tyce DiOrio) – Why can't the choreographers create performances like this during actual competitions? I thought the choreography matched the song well and the movements didn't have to be as synchronized because of the execution. Evan not in the box had to be foreshadowing of the finale.
Emmy Nominated Performances
Jessica & Will – "Silence" – (Tyce DiOrio) – Last season had a lot of underrated performances. I forgot about this performance and who Jessica was because of her broken ankle.
Katee & Twitch – "Mercy" (Mia Michaels) – I admit it, I love this performance. Sure, Katee did all the work, but I didn't notice Twitch's moonwalk. I never did get why a door would be an inch shorter than the frame so Katee's fingers wouldn't get squished.
Chelsie & Joshua – "A Los Amigos" (Dmitry Chaplin) – Chelsie Hightower won me over with her chipper attitude and mile long legs on SYTYCD, but when I watched her teach Ty Murray on Dancing with the Stars? Miraculous. I hope she's back on DWTS with a celebrity with potential.
Chelsie & Mark – "Bleeding Love" (Napoleon & Tabitha D'umo) –The performance was great, except I kept staring at the broken suitcase. Mark didn't close it at the end either.
Solos
Melissa – "I Put A Spell On You" - Nina Simone - Why don't the solos have the countdowns on the performance nights? All the performances tonight were exactly the same as the night before except for the audience counting down.
Ade – "18th Floor Balcony" - Blue October - I would be so nervous if I was in the audience and Ade leaped at me; he'd land on me.
Kayla – "You Found Me" - The Fray - She missed the big cue in the song, probably just the soundstage echo.
Evan - "The Lady Is a Tramp" - Sammy Davis, Jr. - I found his performance to be more energetic tonight, but still the same.
Guest Performances
JabbaWockeeZ - "Freak-A-Zoid" - Midnight Star – The big draw of the JabbaWockeeZ is their precision work, and it was on tonight. It slipped on America's Best Dance Crew when they had limited time to create performances. It's also nice to see Fox being friendly with Shane Sparks by allowing another show's dancers.
Sean Paul – "So Happy" - What happened to the cool riddims of 2003? Sean Paul just isn't as good anymore, and releasing the steam at the end didn't impress me either. I just couldn't get past Sean Paul's friend behind the dancers who would scream random phrases in the back.
The Results
Just as I thought last night, we finally saw the end of Melissa & Ade. It was a little weird watching their goodbye videos because the two were involved in so many performances together.
I'm under the assumption that we'll see every combination of dancers next week. My personal vote lies in Jeanine, and I hope she at least gets best female dancer. Going into the finale, where does your support lie? How much will next week's dances change your votes? Leave comments below.

Ugh, that opening dance was terrible. Anyone who knows Sondheim knows the song is not actually about clowns

Doesn't matter what the song's about in the context of the entire musical. Here, it stands alone, and if the choreographer wants to make it about clowns, then it's about clowns.

Nauseous. I couldn't believe they sent Ade home. After we saw Twitch and Joshua dance tonight it reminded me that they had swagger - and Brandon DOES NOT. Yipes.
I am so disappointed in this season.

Happy Melissa went home, never liked her. Other than that, I'm not interested in the girls since Janette went home.
I'm good with either Brandon or Evan winning, although I have a slight preference for Evan.

Evan has no snap, he feels all personality and technique. I was disappointed not to see Ade and Brandon play off each other. We are the losers. Janine has that extra something, but not always with it..and Brandon is like a taut rubberband, all muscle and snap, but low on the deep and dirty. no comment on Kela. I can nver even remember her name, just that her teeth and hair give her a flash of Paris Hilton and she is soooo flashy.

Clowns are NEVER a good thing, i had my eyes closed the whole time!
I wasnt surprised that Melissa went home, jeanine had more personality and kayla has more range.
I was surprised that Ade went home, and Evan stayed, I knew evan had a huge fan base, I just didnt know it eclipsed Ades that much! Evan is a great dancer, but is he better than Ade? No. Is he better than Brandon?
I predict Jeanine the winner.

Brandon should win, but I think there's a good chance Evan will win. My support is definitely behind Brandon.

WHY IS BRANDON STILL IN THE COMPETITION?! Ugh.
Oh well at least Evan is still in so I'll have someone to root for in the end. Though it was also upsetting to see Melissa/Ade go home. They were definitely my favorite couple of the season.

so, no one is surprised that Ade was "voted off" the show after some naked photos of him were released to the net?

I'm very disappointed that Kayla didn't go home. Flinging yourself around the stage indiscriminately does not constitute a solo.
I think Janine is the only person left who deserves to win.
Evan definitely has more to offer than Ade, but I don't know that he can overcome the judges' obvious bias against him. Even if he does, I still think Janine has more range and appeal.
Brandon got a lot of overcompensatory praise thanks to Lil C and Mia tearing into him at the beginning of the show, and I think he's riding on the momentum of their guilt and public pity. Let's hope that he doesn't ride that wave all the way to the top spot. Seeing Twitch, Mark, and Joshua yesterday reminded me how weak all of the men were this season.
I have higher hopes for the fall season, but if it is as bad as this season, and if the judges keep throwing a contestant undeserved praise (Kayla) or ripping up a contestant necessarily (Evan and Brandon), I don't think I can continue to watch. Initially I loved this show, because it was the antidote to AI, and the judges gave constructive criticism. This season it seems that the judges wore their biases on their sleeves, and some of the choreographers had their heads up their asses. We ended up with a relatively weak cast (with one or two exceptions), and only a few memorable dance numbers. I'm irritated that the judges were stunned when Janette got eliminated, because they thought she would win, yet they spent all of their time pouring undue praise all over Kayla. I think the judges messed up big time this year, and I think they are coming to realize that slowly.
The fall season better redeem this show.

I agree with every word Justelise. By the time we reached the final 6 last seacon there where very few negitive comments from the judges because everyone was "on" and doing a damn good job. I'm very disappointed in this crop of dancers (with a few exceptions). Here's hoping for better in season 6.

I think the final comes down to Kayla and Brandon, both superb dancers. Evan looks like a 12 year old on stage. Brandon will win.
But, now it comes down to the phone calls.
Loved Jabberwocky. They are great and loved them on ABDC. Finally, some decent entertainment.

I am just so glad to see Ade .... and that freakin' pick in his hair .. gone.
I was mad-dialing for Evan on Wednesday night - in part because I think he is definitely one of the best and most entertaining (stage presence) dancers up there - but just as much motivation was because of how pissed off I was with the comments, especially from Lil C, bashing Evan.
Especially from Lil C, Wednesday night was as if "Here's your top five.. oh yeah, and Evan". He deserved to be there! He's a talented dancer AND performer! And he always gives 100 percent, unlike Ade, who too many times danced like he was just phoning it in.
Glad to see Mellissa go ... she's a very talented ballerina, but it got to the point where everything she did was in "Ballerina dancing hip hop" Ballerina dancing Broadway" mode... as if she was physically incapable of dancing OTHER than in ballerina mode.
Who do I think will win? Brandon
Who do I think SHOULD win? One of the girls
Who do I wish would win? Evan, by a landslide!

Precision and personality are what the show is all about. Jeanine has personality, Kayla has precision. Evan has personality, Brandon has BOTH.
Barring any major SNAFU in the finale, Brandon is going to win.

It's odd to see everyone's opinions vary so much.
I was glad Evan was in the top 20, but not once has he excelled in ANY style, and his personality was super dull. I'm shocked he has so many fans.
At this point I think Janelle has the most of the total package. She dances everything well, and her personality shows through; she never seems inauthentic when she dances a routine. She can get sexy in a salsa, and down and dirty in a hip-hop.
Brandon has talent for sure, but little in the way of personality.
Kayla has a lot going on, but there's still something missing.
Just a fans 2 cents.
