This past week, we were treated to two rather cruel and evil "Vegas Verdicts" episodes of America's Got Talent. During those two episodes, judges reviewed the auditions and chose who would be part of the Top 40. Many fans, me included, are angry at some of the choices the judges made. They let people with no talent be part of the Top 40 while some with amazing acts were sent packing.
It was impossible, after watching the two episodes, to come up with the exact list of the Top 40. TV Squad reader Aml commented on my review of last night's episode that the numbers didn't add up and it looked like the judges picked a Top 37 rather than 40, meaning that the Simon Cowell curve ball we are waiting for next week may be that more acts need to be added.
Well, NBC just released the Top 40 list.
- Acrodunk, Houston, Texas (Basketball Dunking Entertainers)
- African High Flyers, Orlando, Florida (Acrobats)
- Allzma, Las Vegas, Nevada (Singers/Musicians)
- Arcadian Broad, Orlando, Florida (Dancer)
- Barbara Padilla, Houston, Texas (Opera Singer)
- Breaksk8, Kokomo, Indiana (Breakdancing Roller Skaters)
- Bri Bernstein, Las Vegas, Nevada (Singer/Musician)
- Carol Loo, Jersey City, New Jersey (Dancer)
- Charles DeWayne, La Verne, California (Singer/Musician)
- Coney Island Chris, Naugatuck, Connecticut (Slideshow)
- Dave Johnson, Renton, Washington (Acoustic Comedy)
- Drew Thomas, Orlando, Florida (Illusionist)
- Eleisha Miller, Amarillo, Texas (Singer/Pianist)
- EriAm, Seattle, Washington (Singing Group)
- Erik and Rickie, Seattle, Washington (Ballroom Dancers)
- Fab 5, Morgan, Utah (Power Tap Dancers)
- FootworKINGz, Chicago, Illinois (Dance Ensemble)
- G-Force, Amherst, Ohio (Girl Band)
- Grandma Lee, Jacksonville, Florida (Comedian)
- Hairo Torres, Grants Pass, Oregon (Breakdancer)
- Ishaara, Berkely, California (Bollywood Dance Group)
- Jeffrey Ou, Carrollton, Texas (Pianist)
- Kevin Skinner, Mayfield, Kentucky (Singer/Guitarist)
- Lawrence Beamen, Walnut Creek, California (Singer)
- Manuela Horn, Seattle, Washington (Comedic variety)
- Marcus Terrell, Kansas City, Missouri (Singer)
- Mario & Jenny, Las Vegas, Nevada (Comedy Variety Duo)
- Matt & Anthony, New York, New York (Dance/Musician Duo)
- Mia Boostrom, North Dighton, Massachusetts (Singer/Musician)
- Mosaic, Las Vegas, Nevada (A Capella Singing Group)
- Pam Martin & Viva, Garland, Texas (Dog Variety Act)
- Paradizo Dance, Brooklyn, New York (Acrobatic Dance Group)
- Pixies Mystere, Cape May, New Jersey (Dance/Contortionist Group)
- Pete Peterkin "The Rock & Roll President," Brooklyn, New York (Impersonator)
- The Platt Brothers, San Diego, California (Variety Act)
- Recycled Percussion, Goffstown, New Hampshire (Band)
- The Texas Tenors, Houston, Texas (Singing Group)
- Thia Megia, Tracy, California (Singer)
- Tony Hoard, New Castle, Indiana (Canine Flying Disc Team)
- The Voices of Glory, Highland, New York (Singers)
The list does include acts we've barely seen during the audition and selection process. Sadly, the Top 40 still excludes fan faves such as 8-year-old singer Ciana, guitarist extraordinaire Tallan, and singer Kari.
Are you happy with the Top 40? Do you expect Simon's curve ball to be that it'll become a Top 45 so to include acts that should have been picked up?
The Top 40 starts to perform live for America's votes next week. The August 5th one-hour results show will include performances by singer Mariah Carey and Terry Fator.

So a grandmother who dances ridiculous and a woman who's claim to fame is as a dominatrix so called singing go through and a sensational young guitar player along with a contemporary hip magician are sent home. Oh yeah, great judging. I will only watch to see the 3 young siblings who sang God Bless America and the country guy. These 3 "judges" have got to be replaced. How about a real dancer, singer/songwriter/performer and maybe a recognized talent scout. Nick Cannon on the other hand was a great host, he's hilarious!

I totally agree with Brian, these 3 judges have no right to judge a talent show! The 8 year-old Hawaiian girl, the 9 year-old boy guiartist, and Kari the lady who sang so beautifully, but had problems with her face, but yet was so beautiful. These 3 had more talent than all the rest combined. Would someone please explain to me,how these 3 could be overlooked with such wonderful talent?

I for one have stopped watching the program due to the Vegas "Cuts", why fly them out there only to send them home straight from the air port, that lacks integrity. On top of that you keep the 70 something "night club" dancer, and send home the 9 year old Blues prodigy, come on!! Perhaps the folks at NBC need to polish up on their math skills so that next time they won't over book the "talent"!!

I thought that the heartlessness of the episodes this week outweighed any of the "spirit" of the shows concept. The dramatic, unnecessary pauses were sad and painful to watch. The obvious unsuitability of some of the acts was apparent from their first appearance (come on, the senior citizen disco dancer?, the vinyl clad dominatrix?) and were given very false hopes. It was apparent that far too many acts were passed through to the next round( the 3 kids who "sang" their mother out of a coma were inspiring, but hardly worthy of, as the judge Pers is always saying" a "$1,000,000 talent show".
Nick Cannon is terrific, and adds so much to the show, but I'll pass on the manufactured tears. Real life is too tough, I don't need more angst.

These judges are obviously clueless. To dismiss Ciana, who is a thousand times more talented than the other little girl they sent through, is an example of the ridiculous judgments that proliferated this past week. And how about the phenomenally-talented little guitar-playing boy, Tallan? And, Kari? The harmonizing group from the post office? And Kelli Glover, the Season 1 American idol reject, who is now a wonderful vocalist? What a crock!! They put through glass eaters and a dancing dominatrix. The judges gave Kari and Tallan and Ciana standing ovations, told Ciana she should start looking for that house she wanted to buy her parents, but ultimately decided none were worthy of advancing. Go figure.

I've heard Simon is having the next show live to allow America vote which talents to bring back. I also found a video on YouTube of last nights end of show surprise with Simon calling and telling the judges that he viewed there top 40 and theirs a big problem.

I was outraged to see the judges kept the little girl on the keyboard and did not keep Ciana. I'm a better singer than that little girl and I know I'm not worth 1 million dollars. Also I think it was a mistalk to dismiss destine2Be. I'm relly disappointed in the Judges!!!

These judges are awful. Completely AWFUL.
They Replace the most Ridiculous acts and make them pass.
They passed a Guy who ate a Lightbulb and Bled from his Mouth. HOW IS THAT TALENT!? I Can eat a lightbulb too but i'd Preffer not to make a complete idiot of myself on television. But they left out an 8 Year old Who could play guitar very well? And a woman who is concidered as "Americas Susan Boyle" Just ridiculous.

I find it amusing that all the judges gets their top 40 verbally spanked, by Simon on tv. They all look like clowns now after their crappy top 40 didnt make the home run. And on top Simon revoked their judging license for the remaining show. They all gotta hate him now.
Simon may be arrogant but 9 times outa 10 i have to agree with him.

I'm so sick of this show. I agree with these people's comments about letting through acts such as the little girl who played Proud Mary, just because she has a great personality, and cutting the 9 year old EXTRAORDINARY guitarist. Do the judges/producers really want to help people be America's Top Pick? Or do they just want ratings? Hmm...let me think....money is what it's all about and these producers don't care about people. I don't think the judges need to be replaced, it's the producers who are in charge of all of this.
Reality shows are not reality. When are we going to figure this out and quit thinking that they are real? Reality shows have so many situations set up just to get ratings.

I have been watching this show since Season 1 and I think I qualify to say that the original spirit of the show is completely gone. Season 1 had talented people and there was a segment of the show where they would bring out 5 quirky acts, people at home would vote, and one of them would get a prize. These were the acts that entertained for 15 - 20 seconds but certainly could not sustain an hour act. I remember one of the winners was Bobby Bad Fingers who played music by snapping his fingers. (The guy who eats glass and bleeds could qualify for this). It was a gentle, sweet show, but the winner, a young girl singer named Bianca Ryan has never been heard from again on the show. The following year Terry Fator was the winner and things started changing from then on. Suddenly it's become about being a Las Vegas act rather than finding undiscovered talent period!
I have to say that this year the production values have gotten better, and I like Nick Cannon as the host, but the show has become cruel, manipulative and very upsetting. This isn't the fun show it used to be and I think it's the end of the road for me and America's Got Talent.

This is all for ratings...
1.) They always put in acts that will never win to showcase the very talented even more. Ala, Britney Spears Drag or that idiot who tried out every year and finally made it also drag. Zooperstars.... Acts that people will laugh at and hardly ever vote for.
2.) Everyone will watch to see what Simon does... You will say you won't but you will watch. They saw what Breswell did last year... made it by an injury and could have won. Well, let's try this again.. a top ten who did not make it perhaps... and let's say top 3 go on. The woman with the clef lip, the 9yr blues, and Ciana.. I bet you anything they make it. Wish I could put a bet in Vegas on this.

Some of these acts in the Top 40 are downright AWFUL! The dancing grandma??? The glass eater??? Wha?
Now, there are some TERRIFIC acts: Lawrence Beaman, whose "Ol' Man River" was AMAZING, or Kevin Skinner, the KY chicken wrangler.
I can't wait to see what Simom Cowell has up his sleeve for next week. I hope it is a few wild cards, so America can bring back some TRULY deserving people and give America a TRULY talented list of performers to choose from this season.
BTW: Nick Cannon is a great host... I love watching him. He seems genuinely interested in the contestants and very supportive.

I have no real problems with the top 40. I was shocked Ciana Pelekai didn't make it but that annoying little smily faced blond girl did.
I would like it if Kari was given another chance. I really like her and I've met her a few times when I would have MRI and CAT scans (having epilepsy makes me have to have those) and she is a wonderfully nice lady with big dreams.
Even so, I am mainly rooting for Kevin Skinner at this point. As long as he makes it to the top 5 and gets a music contract and I get his first album, I'm content.

I thought that Kari Callin was the best singer on that show! She was amazing and all the media was saying that she was our next Susan Boyle! WTF judges! You guys aren't even American! You've got two British people and a flaming homosexual of a German!! I say get some American singers and talent scouts to be the judges! I bet that the foreigners are planning to get a crappy winner to make their countries seem better than the USA on the world stage!! >:0
