Kings: The New King, Part 2 (series finale) - open thread
And so Kings has ended its run on NBC. This was one of the "quality" dramas that some people got excited about when it debuted months ago ... and then it crashed and NBC shoved it over to Saturday nights. But if Twitter is any indication, it still has its fans. What did you think of last night's episode?

This bears repeating. This was a fantastic show and NBC was stupid for dropping a quality show like this. The ending was sadly a season ending, did not have time to course correct the final episode which is a disappointment. I know I am getting this on dvd.

I agree. I can really see where it would go from here. And at the same time, I could see it going in a completely different direction than what I'm imagining. It's a shame we'll never get the chance to see how David becomes king.
There was a lot of God/religion in this episode. Even more than usual. And even though I'm not too fond of the Bible (just in general) and don't consider myself a Christian by any means, I enjoyed that aspect of the series. I sort of wish we understood Silas connection to God a bit more in the previous episodes, that he spoke to him and only him and that's why he was meant to be king. It's so insane to me that Silas is still being so stubborn about David being destined to take his place as king, ordained by God. Even when he said he'd obey whatever God wanted from him. I find it interesting that he has villainous qualities, but he's not THE villain.
I wish they would have given Michelle something to do though. She kind of just stood around and made faces. I guess there wasn't much for her to do in the Bible story either, though, so that makes some sense.
Also, what's with this controversy of NBC changing the description of the episode from "series finale" to "season finale" on the website? I hate that something as insignificant as that can get people's (my) hopes up.
This one is one of my big loses of the 2008-2009 TV season. I'll be picking it up on DVD too.

Couldn't they have at least given us a a true Series Finale instead? This is why I can't get into the show so early on because you never know when they're going to cancel it. This is the only new show that ran through summer that I watched.
Screw NBC.

If there's any chance of renewal, I beg you NBC, please bring this show back. There's a lack of quality programing on television. This was one of the few well-written, well-acted television shows. It's a program of substance, unlike those trashy forgettable shows like Gossip Girl, Melrose Place or 90210. This show has the potential to be epic. It could be an award winner, if you'd just give a chance to live. Or it could just be a critically acclaimed sleeper hit, like Friday Night Lights. If you kept this show, you'd have two of the best hourlong dramas on television.

I'll just throw it on the pile of other shows
that got me hooked only to see them cancelled
with no closure. Deadwood, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Life...I could go on.
Its just not worth wasting time on a decent
drama (in my opinion) knowing that the network
will pull the plug (seems like Kings got the hook even before the second episode ran).

I thought it was very awkward when Silas literally had a conversation with God. And while I loved the direction they took this, I thought it was probably the series weakest eipsode.
As for those who say you shouldnt watch TV because they cancel things, thats just dumb. Deadwood had 3 seaons. They gave Sarah Connor 2, even though it had the worst ratings of any show on in its time slot.
TV is a business and good TV is not always the most viewed. Rest in peace Kings, you will be missed.

The "season" finale did give a sort of ending...but not really. I really, really, really, wish it gets renewed. Or maybe it could go to another channel or something. One can only hope.
We should pull a Jericho and send Gilboa flags to NBC!

I loved Kings - the look, the language, the characters, the actors - it was TOO GOOD for NBC. It should have been on Showtime or AMC or something like that - even one of NBC's numerous cable outlets.
I thought that maybe they could have a movie to tie things up someday - David becoming King, how would Silas ultimately go down, how the evil traitors would be dealt with or come back to try more harm. But the show had such tiny ratings, I don't know. TV is a business after all.

This show was really good, really sophisticated, good characters, good writing. The 1st couple of episodes I didn't really like the actor playing David but he really got better as the episodes went on. I think putting it on Sundays seem to hurt it, seems like Sundays are more for cable networks these days.
One of the things I loved about Kings, perhaps the best part of the show was it's production value. It was amazingly shot and the sets and wardrobe were beautiful. I read that the pilot episode cost about 10 million to make and then the remaining episodes cost about 4 million per episode. With the ratings being low I understand why it was canceled. Also the show would not have been the same on a lower budget.

The same? No. You're right about the production values. Still, what really set it apart was excellent writing and acting... Particularly from Ian McShane.

This show would have been a lot better-suited for HBO/Showtime, or even a cable channel like AMC. Had it been there instead of NBC, it probably would have been lauded as "edgy" and "trend-setting" and "high-quality". Except it was on NBC and didn't get mind-blowing ratings, so it got shunted over to Saturday nights to flicker out.
This episode (well, the whole 2-part finale) was pretty good. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the show took a major dip in quality in the middle of its' run. The first and last 2-3 episodes were good/great, but the filler in-between was badly written and badly acted (well, except for McShane). I think this is another area where the show would have benefited from being on a different network... less need for flashy, lame filler content and/or less need for a 13-ep series order.

i was in Texas when the "finale"aired.. i couldn't wait to get home to watch .. and wouldn't you know it my space was too short.. but thnaks be to God for the internet link.. I felt that God would speack to King Silas by lightning or thunder..it's was the best.. and the part that the Rev. Ephraim played was unbelieveable.. when he asked to let me see the wrong righted whew!! and to appear before David & Michelle and then the King !! excellent writers .. please someone do HBO whatever but we need this type of show.. it get you to thinking.it's so old testament and now..If you look real close to whats happening in the middle east also.. God is still speaking to His chosen ones..but we must listen.. we have turned a deaf ear to Him. again i hope and pray that its renewed..Dirty Sexy Money is another great show it was so old times and new.. someone said"there's nothin new under the sun".. i'm 68 years old what about our group having some value when it comes to veiwing? I've tired of One and a half men etc.. we get sick of always seeing someone trying to screw someone...enough said WE WANT KINGS,WE WANT KINGS,WE WANT KINGS

Heartbroken now that this show has been cancelled. Best parts I'll miss: the two Rosencrantz and Guildenstern characters, Thomasina, what the M Culkin character could have turned into, and the hell Jack has been sentenced to. Please NBC, bring it back!
