We know that Caprica is coming to Syfy on January 22nd. We also know that Edward James Olmos is directing the Battlestar Galactica TV movie "The Plan."An extra little tidbit of news today is Ron Moore's response to the Emmy committee for their snub of the final season of the show. In short, he is not a happy camper.
I wish I could say I was surprised by the Emmy snub, but Hollywood committees do tend to ignore science fiction and fantasy shows when it comes to awards (The Lord of the Rings being the only exception that comes to mind, and that's based on a pretty classic trilogy of books).
The good news is that really good science fiction develops a following that goes far beyond any sort of award recognition. Look at Star Wars. Did that Academy even notice that one? Not really. Yet it still sells loads of merchandise. Battlestar Galactica will likely do the same for some time to come.

The original Star Wars was nominated for best picture. It lost to Woody Allen's Annie Hall. It was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Alec Guinness), Best Screenplay, and Best Director.
So yeah...I think THAT academy noticed Star Wars when it hit.

The only thing bad about this season was the fact that it all led nowhere in the end. But I thought it was great when I had faith that Moore was going to tie everything together.

Huge BSG fan but good grief, it's not an award-quality show. It's well done but it's also a space soap opera and little more.

I agree with Brad T.
I do believe that the ATAS (Academy of Television Arts and Sciences), whose some 10,000 members vote for the Emmy nominees, probably tend to not watch as much of the science fiction programming on TV.
Btw, Emmy nominations are not by "committees," but rather, the entire membership of the ATAS are sent ballots, and they collectively vote. Normally, the top 5 vote-getters in each category get nominated.
