A certain something happened on Torchwood, and I won't spoil it the plot development here. You can read Mike's review of the episode (again, SPOILERS!). The show's creator, Russell T. Davies, says he understands that fans of the show might not be happy with what happened, but I don't think that his response to them will get him any new fans.Speaking with Michael Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly, Davies says it's not a ton of fans who are unhappy, it's "just a few people posting online." But for fans who are no longer going to watch the show after what happened, Davis says he "thank[s] them for watching the show and I recommend they go watch Supernatural, because those boys are beautiful. And don't tell me they're brothers. Not in my mind."
Sure, he's half joking, but I think the point of what he's saying is that Supernatural is an inferior sci-fi/horror show, and if fans of Torchwood can't take the unpredictable twists of Torchwood than they should go watch the CW show. Or am I reading it wrong?

Some Fans are actually not going to watch Torchwood anymore because of what happened to Ianto? Wow.
I mean yeah I'm bummed but heck twists like what happened is why I love the show!
I think you're reading RTD's point correctly. To me it looks like that's what he means.

I don't think that is what RTD meant at all. I think he thinks most of those upset about Ianto were in it for the hoyay. And if they will miss that from Torchwood, they should go watch Supernatural which has a lot of that going on, brothers or not.

I thought Children of Earth was the best that Torchwood's ever been -- and some of the best television I've ever seen. If some fans want it to go back to being what it was in the beginning -- which, to my mind, was namely *bad*, at least in its first season -- then maybe Davies isn't wrong. I'm so glad he had the courage to take the show into such dark places.

I gotta echo the complete misread there. I think RTD was saying that if you're looking for some slashful nookie with your scifi, head over to Supernatural because they've still got it with their sweet, sweet Wincest.
Torchwood is bound to hook Captain Jack up again soonish, but in the interim -> Supernatural.

Yeah. He's talking about the hoyay people keep reading into Supernatural. I don't see anything about an 'inferior show'. He seems to be talking to the people upset over Ianto's death.

I don't think he meant it as an insult. I guess he talks about the fact that Sam and Dean are still alive (died and came back to live) and until Torchwood comes back (without Ianto) the fans can look Supernatural cause Sam and Dean are pretty too.
I love Torchwood and Supernatural so unless Mr Davies says that Supernatural is a bad show; I'm just happy that he gave Spn a little bit free publicity.

Yeah if I were as clueless about the two shows I'd also think he talks about Supernatural as being inferior... jeez...
Let me offer you a similar comparison. "If you don't like what happens on Battlestar Galactica (2003), just watch "Star Trek: The Next Generation"".
It's two types of shows, and all he says is that certain needs are fulfilled on certain shows.
It's the same reaction people have when they come out the cinema after watching "Se7ven" or "The Last Kiss" (a Zack Braff movie).
People who crave happy endings should go elsewhere. People who need non-scary plot developments should just accept the show isn't for them and move on.
That's all he says.
But hey - I'm not a TV critic. What do I know...

Chalk another one up for misread. He's just saying that if you're gonna miss the male-male intimacy on Torchwood, Supernatural's the place to go.
Based on his comments, I'd say it looks like he's a fan of the show himself. After all, I doubt he'd be mentally de-brothering them if he didn't have an interest.

How come Jack's grandson did not come back to life? He's part "Jack" isn't he?

I don't give a crap what Russell Davies says.
Torchwood and Doctor Who are just something Americans don't understand.
Supernatural is a Kick ass show and has been evolving from day one. Inferior my ass. People other than 35 year old nerds living in their moms basements understand the show. Most of Doctor Who is just bizzarre. The average American does not get it!
Davies can go into the abyss of the BBC and who cares about him in America!

I thought Ianto's death was gratuitous, especially given Jack's grandson's death the next "day", but that's not the reason I won't be watching any more TV shows with Davies involved. It was his arrogant, crude, hateful remarks about the "fans" (translate "viewers") of his show. Biting the hand that feeds you is unacceptable.
And giving how he was putting down all fans in his interview, I felt his off-hand remark about the pretty-boy show (SPN) was therefore a put-down as well, implying that if the only reason that the complainers had been watching "Torchwood" was for the "pretty boys", and therefore a show that was (for him) nothing but "pretty boys" was all they were intellectually capable of appreciating.
