The Preview Night for San Diego's Comic-Con 2009 is in the books, and it looked a lot like every other day of the event -- crowded and incredibly busy on all fronts.While the extensive panel schedule doesn't start until Thursday morning, thousands of fans hit the convention floor tonight to check out the mega-displays and to get a jump-start on spending lots of money on merchandise.
And, this year's Preview Night brought an immediate rumor that could affect next year's convention.
The idea is going around that Preview Night will move to Tuesday next year, as the crowds are so huge for Wednesday currently. The thinking is, if folks are willing to bail out of work and head to San Diego on a Wednesday night, they'll be willing to scratch one more 9 to 5 shift and show up Tuesday.
Also, there are so many panels and so many TV shows, movies, web series, games and comics looking to draw fan and media attention that convention bookers could easily pack an entire day's programming into Wednesday and make Comic-Con a six day event.
You say, "Why not just make it a week and get it over with already?" I imagine it's like the Post Office upping the price of stamps. They do it in increments so as not to shock everybody.

And this is precisely why I stopped going 2yrs ago. Even preview night was becoming unbearable. It's still cool to see all the stuff, but fighting your way through the insane amount of people, strollers and little kids on top of the crazy waits to get into or not get into a panel just dropped the fun factor completely.
Besides, the amount of interweb coverage for the show now is just like being there without the stress and heat. I still see all the things I'd take pictures of anyway.
