Conspiracy theorists get ready to start spinning your tales. "American Idol only hired Kara DioGuardi last year so they could be sure she would be ready to replace Paula Abdul this year." "American Idol had no intention of renewing Paula Abdul's contract."Nothing is official as of yet, but Paula's manager is saying that it doesn't appear she'll be back on the juggernaut show this January. A contract needs to be signed right away, considering that she'll be needed for audition rounds pretty soon. Even worse, it looks like FOX hasn't even approached Abdul with a new contract proposal. Maybe they ran out of money after shelling $45 mil to Ryan Seacrest.
This could all be a negotiating tactic by Abdul's new agent; he's only been on the job a few weeks. Leak this kind of story to the press and see what kind of public outcry this is. Of course, in order for it to work, there needs to be an outcry of support for Abdul; so block parties celebrating her dismissal won't exactly help. What do you think of an Abdul-less American Idol?

Paula, you're a star that emanates the .... the true colors that are only audible by the expanding sound of your vocal dkb-akbdt-crgtk- vocalness that makes people love you for you because you have that thing you know, that essence of a kind of quality that if butterflies had cake with a dinosaur and we were all floating on a lake of cotton candy with ourselves, you'd be there with your boobies falling out of your clothes and some xanex and lots of vodka to help you reach that state of awesomeness that if you were a goddess and sang those sweet, dulcet tones in a vacuum with bananas that somehow could relate to your lifestyle, you are a beautiful person.

I loved Paula on the show. She was the balance between Randy and Simon. I do not like the new judge, whatever her name is. She tried to crash Paula's party and failed. Paula to me is more than a SUPERSTAR and she is real! She is such a people person and has such a beautiful heart. She has such amicable true feelings and relates so well to all types of people.

They should be rolling out the red carpet with money in hand for Paula Adbul. She is the antitheses to Simon. AI has proven with their pocketbook, they can't afford to lose Seacest or Cowell. Kara, sadly, was a mistake. Go back to the three judge - with occasional guest judge, format. It worked. Meanwhile - they need to adjust Randy's deal with a clause that if he can't utter anything other than "it was just a'ight dawg", "your the bomb", and "didn't work for me dude" - his contract will be up and he will be replaced with a much more cost-effective robot or impersonator. AI also needs to be careful - they could be slapped with a justifiable lawsuit based on sex-bias.

Paula is the nicest judge....She can get her point across without being mean.....Young people shouln't be ridiculed ....they should be handled easy so they don't get discouraged....Some of the things that Simone has said were just mean and not neccesary....Kara on the other hand is a fake ...I can't stand her....get rid of kara!

To answer the question posed in the headline: Yes, Idol could go Paula-less. Everyone on the show, save Simon, is expendable.
That said, when I saw this story yesterday, I recognized it for what it is: Posturing by Paula's new agent. She will sign a deal, no question. What else does she have as leverage?
