It's hard to believe but last night was the first time that Paul McCartney was on The Late Show with David Letterman.
As Letterman says in the clip below, they had been trying to get him for 15 years with no success. McCartney had been in the studio before, of course, as a member of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 (and once for MTV), but this was his first time on Dave's show. He talks about coming to America back then and what the other band members were like.
(Here's video of the performance from McCartney and his band.)

I was surprised that Paul McCartney wasn't on any of Letterman's shows, but last night's appearance was well worth the wait and I am not a huge Beatles fan.

As soon as I heard the guest I turned the channel. 39 year old that has zero interest in the Beatles and even a slight distaste for Paul.

Well, good for you, Todd. Judging by the ratings for Wednesday's show I would say that having Paul McCartney was obviously a big coup for Letterman.

The reason why Paul was invited to the Dave Letterman show at the Ed Sullivan theater was that is where the Beatles got their start,at the Ed Sullivan theater as they were invited by Ed Sullivan when the Beatles got their start.McCartney had been in the studio before, of course, as a member of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964
