It's been 40 years since a bunch of dirty hippies enjoyed a few wasted days of sex, drugs and rock n' roll under the delusion that indulging youthful exuberance would change the world. Now, the work from the artists of that era are resurfacing to celebrate the anniversary. To honor the memory of Flower Power and hating anyone older than 30, Infinity Entertainment Group is releasing The Mama Cass Television Program on DVD next month.
The show was a one-off, long-lost TV special, taped as a pilot for an ABC variety series that never materialized.
It was a bit too trippy for network executives and never aired again before surfacing next Aug. 25 on DVD. It should fit in nicely with the inevitable deluge of Woodstock remembrances aging baby boomers will soon inflict upon the world.
And, just to clean up the ridiculous urban myth, Cass did not choke to death on a ham sandwich. The poor woman had a heart attack and died in London. When the tabloid press couldn't get the details they wanted on her passing fast enough, they made up the pork rumor to soil her memory. So much for peace, love and understanding.

Actually, her biographer makes a very strong case that Cass Elliot died of a drug overdose. She always did things in a big, big way.

"...dirty hippies enjoyed a few wasted..." Rally? Are you that unhappy that you have to judge so much?
