I don't know if it was part of Nick Cannon's hosting contract with America's Got Talent to have his wife appear on the show this summer, but the producers were able to not only get the world premiere of Mariah Carey's new video "Obsessed" tonight on the show, as I hinted last night in my "Audition show 7" review, but she will also do a live performance in August.

Then again, since Mariah Carey will soon release a new album, titled "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," it makes perfect sense that she would do a promotion tour and perform on the "world's biggest talent show competition" to help boost her sales.

"Obsessed," was written and produced by Mariah Carey, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, and is the first single from her new album, set for release on August 25. The video was filmed last week in NYC and was directed by Brett Ratner, who is mostly known for directing and/or producing movies such as X-Men: The Last Stand. He was also a producer on Prison Break. It's not the first time Ratner and Carey have worked together, as he was involved in the making of the video for "Heartbreaker."

At this time, it's not known which song Mariah will perform on the first results show set to air Wednesday, August 5, but more than likely, it will be "Obsessed." As a Mariah fan, I'm glad she will be on the show to perform. Not only will it add talent to that particular episode (especially if the judges let a few bad acts go through to the Top 20), but it will surely be inspirational for the contestants, especially the singers.
