Big Brother 11: Power of Veto #1

Lydia takes a nap at the Big Brother 11 house

(S11E03)
When we last left the new hamsters in the Big Brother 11 house, not-so-beloved returnee Jessie had automatically assumed the position of head of household. Now, I didn't want to see him return to the show. But for him to return and be in a position of power? Egads! Yes, I said "egads." It just seemed fitting for the situation. Tonight's show proved that Jessie is easily steered. You just have to handle him right ... he's not all that bright.

Let's run this through --
  • Jessie fell for Ronnie's alliance vow between the brains and the brawn. Ronnie safe, check.
  • Jessie fell for Russell and Natalie encouraging him to put Lydia on the block despite the fact he originally kind of liked her. Lydia on the block, check.
  • Jessie fell for Laura offering to join forces with his clique when she's just doing it for her own motives in the game. Laura in a safer spot, check.
  • Jessie fell for Lydia playing him like a fiddle tonight. Lydia saved, check.
  • Jessie fell for Lydia throwing a rather bizarre yet innocuous Braden under the bus. Braden now on the block in place of Lydia, check.

While Jessie isn't the sharpest tool in the shed (I think of him as a dull circular saw), his body buddy Russell isn't much better. But Russell is more like the same dull circular saw in the hands of a pit bull. I have to give him credit for determination. However, just when I thought I'd like Jessie the least in the house, I discover Russell. He's a bully. I don't like bullies.

Alas, Russell won the power of veto comp tonight. I might add that whoever thought of squeezing pimples on a giant face must have been recruited straight from high school for this season's theme. It was no shocker that Jessie went for a quasi-large word in the comp and made two mistakes after deciding he was done first. It's too bad that the more intelligent folks in the comp went for larger words than they could find the letters. Civilization, superficiality, and technotronics were huge efforts. Russell won with "shotgun." Sigh.

At least we saw some hamsters trying to play the game tonight. Laura's move to approach the Power Tools was one. Ronnie tried to play the game, but really flubbed by letting Braden know that he was about to be backdoored. I say Ronnie deserves a demerit or two for that move. Lydia made her moves to redeem herself with both Jessie and Natalie, well done.

It didn't surprise me Russell was so deeply offended that Jeff had the audacity to not cling to the body buddies with admiration and awe that he felt the need to make a spectacle out of him. Bully! I so loved that Jeff didn't miss a stride on the elliptical machine as Russell ranted and tried to encourage a physical confrontation. Of course, Jeff with that Jason Bateman thing going on looks-wise, came across almost as cool as a cucumber. Russell's rage only strengthened Jeff's stance that he wants no part of that bunch. Good. May the athletes crumble next week. I changed my mind -- I want Russell out before Jessie.

Who will go home this week?
