We already know about the in-development reboot of Alien Nation at Syfy. What I somehow missed in all the hoopla about that is that Syfy is also in talks with creator Don Bellisario about a possible relaunch of Quantum Leap. Or a sequel or, really, whatever Bellisario would be interested in. Syfy is looking for a great time travel show, and other than Doctor Who, was there ever a better executed one than Quantum Leap?Hell, with Scott Bakula all over our television screens on Chuck and The New Adventures of Old Christine among other appearances, and Dean Stockwell already familiar to SyFy's core fan-base, why not just go ahead and do a continuation of the original series with Sam's daughter in the lead role, or something like that?
You could have Al retired and Sam still lost, or in complete control, in the timestream meaning both could make guest appearances from time to time. Man, Quantum Leap stands as one of the five or ten best television series I've ever seen, and no matter how much time passes, it never seems dated. Sliders next, please ... and do it right this time.

If this comes to fruition, I will do whatever penance SyFy requires for me bad-mouthing their branding plan.
Holee crap! I've been waiting for a QL revival ever since mean ole Don made me cry in front of my girlfriend with that series finale.
"Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home."
*sniff*
Excuse me, I need to get a tissue.
Here, watch this supposed "alternate ending."

I remember this was one the cards in 2002 when the then sci-fi channel bought the remake rights. It was same time they made a Tremors series. Trey Callaway even had a pilot written at one point. I hope this isn't just the same dust being kicked up.

They've been trying to plan this for years and years. It's never happened. And while us true sci-fi fans would probably still watch it, I find it hard to believe it would be able to draw in a new audience unless they were familiar with the original series. Same applies to Sliders.
Of course, if they could bring back any or all o the original cast to either show, I would be tuning in every week.

I'd love for them to present a new Quantum Leap series, regardless of whether it is a continuation of the original, or something that just borrows ideas from the original.

I wouldn't watch if Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell were anything less than regulars on the show.

Granted they could have had a better series finale but I'm not so sure this needs to be brought back. As much as I was a fan of "Quantam Leap" at the time something needs to be said for just letting things go. If they can come up with a good idea, a good SL I certainly wouldn't be against a telelvision movie, but does Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell want to just play the same chracters for another 4 or 5 years? They had such chemistry together do we want to see thier sons/daugthers, students replacce them and do the leaping?

I have to say I'm not a fan of all these remakes and "re-imaginings." There are so many great science fiction novels that could be turned into series or movies-of-the-week without breaking the bank. Why not go that route? I mean, come on Syfy, "imagine greater."
Sure, Quantum Leap was a fantastic series and, hell, if they brought it back and it was good I'd watch it. However, I almost wish they would do a reunion movie that allowed the series' premise to meet it's promise and get Sam back home. That would be more interesting to me.

I would love, LOVE a reunion movie that got Sam back home. I think the concept itself has kind of run its course- if you watch the old eps in syndication, you start seeing the same themes over again (Sam jumps into a woman! Sam jumps into a black guy during the civil rights movement! etc etc) But a reunion movie could end the thing right.

I'd love to see that happen, but I feel satisfied with it the first go round and I'd hate to see it ruined. If anything, considering that SB's still a sexy beast, I'd love to see him return to the lead role -

While I watched the first season of Quantum Leap avidly I started to get the "Been there, done that" feeling soon afterwards.
Hasn't this premise been done, redone and then redone again enough times?

Sure it's been done time and time again, but very rarely had it been done so well! The writers ability to create story lines that were socially relevant coupled with acting skill of Dean Stockwell and Scott Bakula were a winning combination. I am reminded of one episode in particular where Sam leaps back to his family in the sixties and his brother is about to leave for active duty in Vietnam -Sam is powerless to save his big brother due to the danger of altering the time line. I have rarely seen anything as poignant on any TV series past or present. So if it happens, I say welcome back Quantum Leap!

Why not just continue the NBC show from a couple of years ago...Journeyman? That show was just starting to gte real good when the writers strike killed it.
I am sure that getting "Dan" from Grey's Anatomy might be hard.

I absolutely agree that Journeyman was a great show. I'd say it was better than QuantumLeap.
A friend of mine said to me something like "I saw Journeyman the first time they aired it and it was called Quantum Leap". Pretty funny, but there was a really good story there.

It's about time!Quantum Leap was a favorite of mine when I was an undergraduate struggling to attend school while working fulltime. It was so well written and acted it really stands up today. I only hope that the writers and producers preserve the integrity of the old show while putting their own unique stamp on the new one. Who knows, if they are successful perhaps a remake of Dark Sadows could be in the works.
