I almost chose the above pic for this week's "What the heck is this?," but realized it would be too obscure for readers to get. What is it? It's a bloody pair of chewed up shorts, and it's part of the press kit for Discovery Channel's "Shark Week." James Hibberd over at The Hollywood Reporter gives a rundown on what the kit looks like up close. It includes Hibberd's obituary.
I once got a "Shark Week" T-shirt from the network but nothing like this.

Overboard? Maybe. Hilarious? Absolutely.

Mr. Sassone,
Have you seen the latest promos for Shark Week with the girl hanging on to the side of the boat getting violently ripped under the water after saying "Hello, kids at home"? It is just one more example of how the Discovery Channel is distorting the truth in the name of ratings.
Shark Week is no longer educational and informational programming about sharks. It is just more violence and nonsense. The bloody ripped shorts in the press kit are just the beginning as the Discovery Channel desperately tries to woo viewers.
Check out the article entitled, "Discovery Channel Spreads Shark Fear," at www.vpvantagepoint.wordpress.com. Thank you and have a good day.
Sincerely,
John VanPelt
