Zap2it is doing a rather ambitious poll concerning the greatest TV characters. And it's not just a general question, they're looking for specific characters: Best Mom, Best Private Eye, Best Couple, Best Nurse, Best Sidekick, Best Bitch, Best Alien, Best Voiceover, and many more. The voting continues through August 17. The rules say that the show must have premiered in the 2000s, though they're relaxing the rules a bit to include shows that launched in the 90s (or 80s) as long as they also stayed on throughout the 2000s too.

I hope there's a category for Omar Little. He's not exactly the Best Mom type.

I think Zap2it has a hard time with scale. This poll is fun, but I think it would be alot more entertaining if it didn't have 10000 categories.
Then next week they'll do a poll asking what's the best TV show ever and their'll be only five nominees.
Oh well, its' good temporary fun.

I can't participate. Most of my favorite TV characters were from shows that ended way before the 2000s.
Monday, July 20th is the Best Spy/Secret Agent and Best Tough Girl polls. My answer for both would be Emma Peel. I think it's funny because July 20th is Diana Rigg's birthday.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, Amy. I went through the categories currently posted, and had a reasonable degree of knowledge about only one, at most two, of the candidates in any given section.

So by limiting it to post-2000 shows they're basically saying that anyone over 25 shouldn't bother, right? And it should be called "Greatest TV Characters of the Past Decade" everywhere. Because TV did exist before 2000. If they only want teenagers and just-past-teenagers participating, fine. But don't use a word like "Greatest" without qualification. It ignores 5/6--over 80% of the history of television.

A better qualifier would be "Post 2000 stuff that didn't totally suck".
How can you have a 'Greatest' list of anything including only 9 years? How about Greatest Reality Shows? Now there's an oxymoron!

Stewie Griffin is the best cartoon character of all time. No question about it.
