FX is not picking up The Norm MacDonald Reality Show

Norm MacDonaldYesterday FX announced their fall premiere dates along with the news that an untitled new half-hour comedy would be launched and paired with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Nothing else was announced about this yet-to-be-named series, but thanks to our reader Jared, we now have an idea of what it may be:

The Norm MacDonald Reality Show.

Nothing has come down from FX regarding this in terms of a pilot greenlight or series pick up, but according to Norm himself? He seems to think it's a go.

In an interview with Express Milwaukee a few months ago, MacDonald teased the show, saying that he's "doing a television show on the channel FX, which will actually be funny, or it might be" and "they're [FX] finally going to let me do something I want to do." He goes on to say the plan is for it to be paired with It's Always Sunny. He's sure talking like he's got a series order, huh?

So what's it about? In the tradition of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Fat Actress, MacDonald plays a pseudo-version of himself. Strapped for cash, he's given a reality show where he has to do all sorts of idiotic stuff to get a laugh. One thing leads to another (like dating "the Barbie twins"), he somehow kills his driving teacher, and the fame and fortune he so longed for suddenly arrives because of a court trial, causing his reality show to take off. Sounds ridiculous - I like it.

So I got to wondering - FX has been mum on anything about this show. So mum in fact, that they haven't breathed a word of it. So I got in touch with their PR folks and asked if this was indeed the unnamed show announced yesterday and here's the verdict:

"No, it's not."

Now that's reality.
