Being a nerd, I'm very familiar with Jeri Ryan's career. She helped make Star Trek: Voyager watchable for a while as a self-aware Borg and recently starred in CBS' Shark alongside James Woods. But it was her work on the David Kelley shows Boston Public and Boston Legal that has me thinking she'll be a good fit for Leverage. The actress handled Kelley's sharp dialogue like a pro, and I'm guessing she'll bring the same confidence to her role as a "smart-ass, street-wise con woman" on the second season of Leverage. Ryan has signed on for a recurring role on the TNT heist drama. Her character will be a friend of Sophie's (Gina Bellman), Leverage's sexy grifter with a bag full of tricks and foreign accents.
The show is really milking its Star Trek connection. The Next Generation star Jonathan Frakes is a director on the show. Last season he helmed an episode featuring three former Trek stars. Another former Trek crew member, and former Squadder, Wil Wheaton will appear in the show's second season. If you're a nerd, you should probably be watching this show.
Timothy Hutton and the rest of the Leverage gang will be back on TNT starting July 15.

Ryan is definitely a far better actress than I think she gets credit for. I mean, she walked around in a skin-tight cat suit for several season on Voyager without seeming like a complete airhead! You're right, she was very good on Boston Public, probably helped that show stay on a little longer; and her two episodes of Boston Legal were good but not a showcase of her talent. I was not a fan of Shark (mostly because of James Woods) so I can't comment there.
Leverage is one of those series that was a slow build for me. It didn't really grab my attention at first, but over time I really started enjoying it. I especially liked the season finale. Ryan should be a good addition to an already strong cast.

It probably sounds dumb but I decided she was a good actress near the beginning of her time on Voyager when her character ate food for the first time, and I remember seeing the look on her face and saying, "Wow, she really looks like someone who is tasting food for the first time."

RYAN is no 'high' talented actress = average, low profile - tv series SHARK was a good one mostly due to actor James WOODS - RYAN as a 'proc' was ridiculous, walking around most of the time, no lines no text - I never saw a lawyer or proc 'moving' her ass like that... should get a 'eyes surgery' anyway.

Ryan got my attention when I saw her on Dark Skies back in the 90's and not just because of her looks. She was a pretty decent actress back then and after a few seasons on Voyager she was much better an actress on Shark. Her acting had matured quite a bit.
