It's doubtful the tough guys (and gal) driving north to Alaska on the current season of Ice Road Truckers are big video game players. They're too busy staying alive while driving tons of cargo over roads would keep sane people home from school. But, that's not stopping The (former) History Channel from launching its first paid iPhone and iPod Touch game with an application that allows users to command 18-wheelers across Arctic roads.
Fans of the show -- and of snowy truck driving in general -- can download a free, "lite" test version of the game now through Apple iTunes.
The success of that freebie testifies to the surprising popularity of Ice Road Truckers, as History reports more than 680,000 downloads so far, with nearly 350,000 of those downloads flowing in the US.
The complete, paid version of the app hits the road on June 28 through the iTunes store for $3.99.

This game is horrible. I downloaded it last week because I'm a fan of the show, but you can tell it's a rushed effort and not that closely tied to the show, outside of 'driving on ice' which it doesn't do very well.
