Scrubs goes back to school

Scrubs
As it's been speculated in the last months, Scrubs will not be the same when entering its ninth season. We know that Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke have both inked deals to appear in only six episodes and that, since Donald Faison's pilot wasn't picked up, rumors were going around that Scrubs 2.0 could revolve around Turk and medical school.

Confirmation has finally arrived and the show will indeed go through an extreme makeover that will take the action from the hospital to medical school.

Slight spoilers coming up!

Series creator Bill Lawrence confirmed a few days ago to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello that the ninth season of the show would center around med school where Dr. Cox, played by John C. McGinley, and Turk would be professors.

Fans, be advised that the the ninth season will almost be a different show. "It'll still be life-and-death stakes, but if the show is just Scrubs again in the hospital with a different person's voiceover, it would be a disaster and people would be mad," Lawrence told Ausiello in interview.

Fear not, Sacred Heart is not a place of the past. Students will have to make their way to the hospital on occasions as Med students in their first three years must spend some time in a hospital. This means that we will see some Scrubs familiar faces. As mentioned before Braff and Chalke agreed to appear in a few episodes. Other familiar faces will be Judy Reyes and Ken Jenkins, who both agreed to make guest appearances. Since Neil Flynn has a lead role in a new ABC sitcom, don't expect the Janitor to be seen cleaning the Sacred Heart halls nor the classrooms. No word yet on if the other supporting characters will pop up once in a while.

The main cast of the ninth season will be comprised of McGinley and Faison along with newcomers who'll mostly play the students.

Now that details of next season have been confirmed, do you think you'll watch this Scrubs 2.0? Why? Why not? Also, a "named" actor is set to be cast in one of the new roles. Which actor/actress would you like to see join the show and in what type of role? Let your voice be heard in comments below and in our poll.

Will you watch the ninth season of Scrubs?
