Candace Cameron (Bure) returning to television on Make It or Break It tonight

Candace Cameron BureWe all watched her grow up on Full House and then we watched her disappear from our television screens, seemingly forever. I don't know if I'll go so far as to say Candace Cameron was to the early '90s what Alyssa Milano was to the late '80s, but that's because I'll be forever loyal to my boyhood crush on Samantha Micelli. But while Milano has been on the airwaves virtually every season since the question of Who's the Boss? was answered when the network canceled it, not so for Cameron.

She got married and went off to raise her kids for ten years, giving us only a few appearances in that time. Now 33 and ready to get back to work full time, Candace Cameron Bure will be one of the stars in ABC Family's gymnastic-themed Make It or Break It, premiering tonight at 9pm ET.

She'll be joining Peri Gilpin (Frasier) and a bunch of really flexible kids. At first, I thought this was a reality show because ... well, it's summer time and isn't that what we do in this country now? Actually, I think I'm a bit disappointed that it's not.

Hell, even reading the accompanying article, I'd decided that maybe Gilpin and Cameron Bure were hosting the show. Sure, okay. I'm still on board. I was even rooting for it to succeed so we could quickly move onto the celebrity version of the gymnastics competition where I could see Stephen Baldwin, Gary Coleman and all those other celebrities who'll do anything for a buck try their hand on the mat. We've already seen them dance, skate and even perform circus stunts.

In reality, I think this show could fit quite well with the demographic ABC Family has been developing the past few years with Kyle XY and Secret Life of the American Teenager. It can be pretty unique to look at a world where thirteen year old girls are professionals while 16 and 17 year old girls are forced to retire because they grew boobs and got hips. Just like family sitcoms, when the kids get too old it's time to bring in replacements, as Cameron Bure can attest to.
