"The biggest talent search in the history," as former America's Got Talent host Jerry Springer used to say over and over again, is beginning its fourth season on Tuesday.Judges David Hasselhoff, Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan will return to give their two cents about the acts performed on stage in front of them. One cast change is the arrival of Nick Cannon as host. Let's hope that Nick won't read the teleprompter too much and will have better interactions with the contestants than Springer did.
Want to know more about this season's AGT? Details coming up!
From what I've gathered from previews and the show's official website, it looks like the format of the show, including the audition and elimination process, will be the same. Too bad, since the show would have benefited from having the acts, especially in the later rounds, perform by categories to ensure that a good variety of performers -- read here: less singers -- in the final episodes.
One thing is certain; we will be entertained. Based on the previews that have been airing on NBC for a few weeks now, it looks like we will once again have crazy, scary, and weird acts along with the touching stories and amazing performers who had a hard life before, such as last year's AGT winner Neal E. Boyd.
Also expect the return of past winners Neal E. Boyd and Terry Fator to perform in the later episodes and give tips and tricks to the finalists. However, don't pray too much for an appearance by season one winner Bianca Ryan, as she is not even mentioned on the "about" page of the show's website while the other two winners are... I don't understand why the show is not including her, especially since, according to her personnal website, she is doing well enough as a singer. Wouldn't they want to add her in the mix to show that their winners can have a career after AGT? Maybe Bianca doesn't want to appear? Who knows? In any case, it's unlikely we will see her this season.
However, as reported earlier this week on TVSquad, expect the AGT producers to do their best to have Susan Boyle appear on the show.
To help you plan your first weeks of summer, here is what the AGT audition schedule should be like thanks to The Futon Critic (note that I did not include the reruns and that every episode starts at 9 PM):
- Tuesday, June 23: Audition Show #1 (2 hours)
- Wednesday, June 24: Audition Show #2 (1 hour)
- Tuesday, June 30: Audition Show #3 (1 hour)
- Wednesday, July 1: Audition Show #4 (1 hour)
- Tuesday, July 7: Audition Show #5 (1 hour)
- Wednesday, July 8: Audition Show #6 (1 hour)
Stay tuned to TV Squad over the summer where I will once again bring you reviews for every episode and include polls so you can tell us who should go through.

Big problem for me last year was too many audition shows and not enough time with the talent they found. It got to be damned annoying.

I'd like three things -
1) Greater variety in later rounds - like you, I'd prefer fewer singers.
2) Better editing - More of the act, less judge/audience reactions.
3) A decent job from the new host - Nick Cannon's got pretty big shoes to fill, relating to the contestants-wise.

They spend way too much time on the auditions and then eliminate finalists left and right. I don't understand that. half the finalists are gone each week. That's simply too many.
What do I want? I want someone other than a damn singer to win. Terry Fator is a singer -- he won because of his ability to imitate other singers, not his ventriloquism. When a non-singing act wins this show, I'll begin to believe that it's truly a fair contest.

The new MC, Nick Cannon or something, is WAY over-exposed, detracts from the show, and is over his head.
Cut his time by 80%! Tired of seeing him "behind" the scenes during the acts.

I think the reason Bianca never gets mentioned on AGT is because she opted out of her contract with Simon Cowl , they were doing nothing for her and just put her on the back burner when her CD didn't sell millions of copies, now they are acting like she was never there, the only spot she ever got was season two she wished the two finalist good luck , there have been two different polls of who your favorite winner was and Bianca always wins by a landslide just as she won the show no one else had a chance Bianca won the popular vote by MILLIONS

That would explain why she doesn't appear on the show anymore but I don't get why they don't at least mention her on the site.

I wish I could remember the Country Singers first name from Kentucky, I know his last name is Skinner. Was it Patrick? He sung the Garth Brooks song on Tuesday's June 30th show. What a voice. If a recording producer ever approaches him and he records. I'd love to hear more of his music.

I have never watched America's Got Talent, but was told of a friend of a friend who is competing, and watched a video where the group got 3 nods (The Texas Tenors from Houston). What happens now? Do they perform every week? Is there a semifinals or some other winnowing down that takes place before the finals in which I can see them again? I apologize for not knowing, but I'm new to this show, and would appreciate an answer. Thanks.

They will have to perform one more time for the judges. The judges will then decide the Top 40. Then, the Top 40 will perform and America will vote for those they want to see move on to the Top 20, then Top 10, etc.
