TomTom? Meet HomerHomer

Homer Simpson on your TomTomGadgets have always fascinated me. And it's not because of what you can do with them. It's what you CAN'T do with them. The day my microwave can cook my dinner, then feed it to me while it's cleaning my toilet, de-crumbing the toaster, and doing my taxes is the day my interest in gadgets dies.

The most impressive aspects of gadgetry are how much you can customize them to fit your taste and personality. Just a few years ago, having a Dilbert screen saver that didn't send your hard drive into an epileptic fit was the epitome of "personal" computing.

Now you can change the way it looks from every angle, the way it thinks, and even the way it talks. TomTom unveiled a new voice skin for their GPS devices. Now Homer Simpson, the actual voice of Homer Simpson voiced by Dan Castellanetta, can guide you to locations and it doesn't have to be a dispensery of donuts.

Your GPS speaks directions like it normally would, but with a lot more "Woo-hoos" and big, dumb laughs that make Homer the loveable lug he is. Of course, it isn't known just how much loveability he stands to lose when his voice accidentally leads drivers the wrong way down a one-way highway or smack dab into the middle of downtown Tehran.

The funny part is that Homer is not the first television celebrity to get their own GPS voice skin. NavTones.com has a Russian bread line-long list of movie and television stars who have lent their voice to download to your GPS, and before you ask, no, Tootie is not available ... yet.

Stars like Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall has recorded a GPS voice skin. It also comes with a built-in directional feature that allows the driver to go both ways. (Click here for the appropriate response to this joke.)

Actor Gary Busey has also recorded his own GPS voice skin, because driving isn't scary enough.

Even KITT from TV's Knight Rider not only has his own GPS voice skin, but his own officially branded GPS device. It's the perfect gift for the guy in your life who never wants to go on a second date ever again.
