I'm really enjoying this season so far. It has a good mix of drama, guest stars, good challenges, and actual food being made. What did you think of this episode? Were Brett and Teddy right in what they said about Melissa, or did they only help a little and she probably could have done it on her own? I think she accepted their help not out of panic but just because they offered and anyone would in that situation, though it would have been nice if she had mentioned that to the judges. The Next Food Network Star: Episode 2 - open thread

Maybe it was in the editing, but from what we saw Brett and Teddy were the ones to offer their help without Melissa prompting it. So the fact that they basically threw her under the bus during judging was totally low. I'm so glad Brett was eliminated for this reason.
Right now I'm rooting for Jamika and to a lesser extent Debbie and Michael. I mean I would actually watch their shows. The others? Not so much.

Agreed. I felt really bad for her, but she does seem way out of her league compared to the other contestants on the show.

I think Teddy and Melissa were both sort of ambushed by Brett even bringing up the fact that Melissa had help in plating (which Brett offered to do, on his own), so really didn't have time to formulate any kind of coherent response.
Brett is a total douchebag. Glad he's off my tv.

Brett was a total ass. I watched the episode and it looked to me like both Brett and Teddy offered to help Melissa; she didn't ask. Melissa strikes me a the type of person who would only think Brett and Teddy were helping out of kindness. Brett was so totally out of line and Teddy was a complete coward; the kind of person who won't stand up for himself or anyone else. Melissa could have articulated herself a little better but I think she was totally shocked by the accusation. Who could blame her. What annoyed me was the judges' reaction. They knew Brett and Teddy offered to help but they allowed Brett to attack her. Maybe they were waiting for Melissa to defend herself.
I'm surprised they didn't send Katie home because she really hasn't done too well, but I'm glad Brett is gone. He was loud, obnoxious, and thought overly much of himself. I would never have watched a show with him.
I'm not liking this bunch so far. Eddie is totally grossing me out. Katie and Teddy are boring. I like Melissa but I think the network already has that demo covered. Michael is fun but I wonder if he could sustain a weekly series. Right now I see Jeffrey, Jamika, and Debbie as the front runners. Of the three, Debbie is probably the only person who might bring something new to the network.

I agree Melissa seems a little overwhelmed but what Brette did was awful. If he had not gone home I would not have watched again. I think Teddy was also uncomfortable with what Brette did. They offered to help. I believe she could have pulled it off alone but that just might be the teacher in me pulling for her. I also really like Jeffrey. I think he is unique..reminds me of Kenny G in appearance. I also loved the collards and cornbread but then I am i Charleston, SC so I cannot imagine New Years without those and without hopping johns! I am looking forward to watching Melissa..the mother of 5 in 9 years really wantsher to show everyone!
