It's good to know that in times of economic uncertainty and the impending collapse of our infrastructure that our leaders are taking the time to combat the true faces of evil in our world -- penis pill ads. U.S. Rep Jim Moran of Virginia recently sent letters to three major drug manufacturing companies (Pfizer, Eli Lily, and GlaxoSmithKline) asking them to "tone down" the nature and material of their erectile dysfunction ads on TV.
Moran's beef (ahem) with the companies are how they affect the children, stating, "Parents should be able to watch a football game with their kids without having to either mute the television or explain the side effects of a life enhancement drug." The issue seems to be a personal one for the representative. I mean with the television ads, not ED, although I can't say that with any certainty, or maybe I just don't want to.
Moran spoke with the companies about toning down the ads back in 2005, but the response to his concerns have since limped.
So Moran stood strong and shot back with legislation earlier this year requiring stricter decency standards for such advertising. Of course, if the bill is passed and becomes law, it's not known if it will be able to stand up in court.
Moran said the ads have become an almost dominant figure during sports broadcasts and have made things quite awkward for parents with kids wanting to know why the large creepy man is behaving that way. It wasn't until John Madden's retirement that Moran learned the kids were talking about the Enzyte ads.
Thanks folks! I'll be here all week! Tip your meal and enjoy your waitresses! Good night!

"Daddy, why are those half-naked ladies dancing at the side of the football field? And why are their boobies so much bigger than mommy's?"
Yeah, wholesome family fun... ;-)

There is the REAL problem.
TV Ads are not regulated at all and do not have to obey the ratings for the program at all.
Hence we are seeing 'commercials' during TV-Y/TV-Y7 programs that contain all the 'good parts' for a program at 10pm that night....aka the good parts that earned it its TV-PG13/TV-MA rating. The networks themselves are about 100x worse at this crap than any real advertisers.
Its a total joke at this point. The FCC is totally dropping the ball on this one.

Yes! We need more regulation! Clean the airwaves! Keep the minds of our children safe!
(this comment contains irony. If you can spot it, it's yours to keep!)

Have you ever tried simply turning off the tv, sitting down with your children... and hitting them?

I think it's absolutely wonderful that Mr. Moran does not experience erectile dysfunction, or at the very least knows where to go and what to do if he does. This, I would imagine is a very embarrassing as well as emotionally disturbing condition for many men who are afraid to seek out or even know where to seek out help. The ad is fine. I am certain that Mr. Moran's wife is content (if he's having sex with his wife) unlike millions of other women who appreciate the ad and are able to discuss it more openly with their husbands when the ads come on. Kids?? What's the problem? Are you going to take the kotex and tampon ads out? What about women pracing around in their bra's. Please. Our children have been protected enough. We need to quit robbing our children of their experiencesin which they gain knowledge and wisdom. Mr. Moran apparently has nothing better to do with his time. Believe me, and I'm certain many of you agree, there are more important things that he can work on rather than a commercial that can help millions of couples, which in effect, help their chioldren. Whatever!! Sherry Sievert, Mpls/St. Paul

I can handle the ED ads, they don't irritate me nearly as much as the STD med ads. Its bad enough we have to suffer through tampon commercials.

As someone who watches a lot of sports, it's a bombardment of these product's ads. And what does sitting in separate bathtubs outside have to do with being ready for sexual relations?

Wow. This is America, without a doubt. We pride ourselves on our freedoms... until one person makes it his/her mission to stop something they dislike... like stopping scary medical ads for medicines, censoring nudity on late-night television, or killing off Jews... bunch of uptight Nazi bastards! Tell you what, you come up with a valid explanation why it's ok to have shows like 24 on at 9pm where there's simulated killing, torture, and lies out the wazzu (and I love 24), and I'll stop pressing for lighter FCC rules. GRRRRRRRR!
With love,
J :)

I find it funny that ED ads are on all the time but condom ads are shown here or there (and then only on MTV). I'd much rather see ads that promote a product that will help prevent STDs or unwanted pregnancies . Okay, I don't find it funny - cause it really annoys/pis-es me off that condom ads are not shown - it's a message that need to be shown.

I would like to chime in on this topic. I was watching "A Night At The Museum" on TNT a few weekends ago and one of these companies ran an add during almost every commercial break. I understand that if you let your kid watch TV at 11:00 PM that you should expect to see things that you may not want them to see but as a responsible parent who monitors what his kid see, that was ridiculous. This is a movie aimed at kids and was on at 4:00 PM on a Saturday. My daughter asked me what they were trying to make bigger.
That is unacceptable.

I have no problem with the content with these ads, but the frequency with which they are being shown is beyond obnoxious. You just can't watch many shows on TV now without seeing penis pill commercial after penis pill commercial after penis pill commercial after penis pill commercial. Enough already!!!

I wish they would also stop showing ads for all the horror/violent movies that are coming to a theater near you during "family" TV time.
While watching a MLB game at 7:30 p.m. with my 4 year old I have to change the channel whenever the commercials come on for fear he will have nightmares for the rest of his life because they want to promote the latest blood, gore, murder, scarefest that Hollywood has made. It is disgusting what is advertised during "family" time on TV.
