Michael Chiklis is regularly hinting that a feature film version of The Shield is in the offing, while official news of any such production is still under wraps. With posts like,"Vic Mackey lives!" and others, Chiklis is using his Facebook page to hype the Shield movie rumor. He linked to an E! article on the possible film no less than three times.
The problem is it's difficult to find any other media coverage on the possibility of The Shield heading to theaters. In fact, Chiklis' favorite article above is pretty much it. So, is Chiklis leaking something producers would just as soon keep quiet for now?
No doubt fans of the show would enjoy seeing it return in a movie, especially since some were left spinning after the show's on-air finale on FX. Fans are never entirely happy with any "farewell episode" (see The Sopranos), and some Shield fans were disappointed that Mackey's various sins led to little more than isolation. If a movie is en route, the anti-hero's dubious fate makes more sense.
Essentially, Chiklis' messages and the online article seem like a call to fans of the show to express an interest in a feature. If the studio sees there's still a base of support, it makes funding the project that much easier.

I remember reading some rumors that Chiklis was rather upset at his own agent for not being able to transition into starring in major motion pictures.
It may explain the lukewarm ending of the tv series, maybe he needed the Vic Mackey character as his trump card.

Not so sure a big screen version would work too well. Forget story, just the look of it would be different. There is a reason why for seven seasons "The Shield" didn't go widescreen the way all the other FX shows like "Nip/Tuck" have. Its to give that documentry style, "Cops" look, to make it look like we weren't watching a cop series like "NYPD Blue". I think it would not translate quite so well on a movie screen.

I would absolutely LOVE to see a movie with Vic Mackey and other "Shield" members..I'm not a movie goer, but I would certainly make an exception for this one.
