Will Forte is hilarious. Last night, he stole the show from Jimmy Fallon on Late Night, which admittedly doesn't seem very hard to do, with non-stop jokes and a mini rock opera. He might not be the most popular comedic actor on Saturday Night Live, but he's definitely one of the funniest. That's one of the reasons I'm looking forward to his MacGruber movie.Yup, a MacGruber movie. Forte told Fallon about a script he wrote for a feature film based on the SNL sketch. "John Solomon, Jorma Taccone, and I just finished writing it. We're gonna make it in Albuquerque. It's me and Kristen Wiig and cast to be determined," he said. Video after the jump.
I think most of us knew this was coming. Lorne Michaels and crew have produced films based on the sketchiest SNL sketches (It's Pat, Superstar, The Ladies Man), but I have no idea how a MacGruber movie would work, considering MacGruber always dies in an explosion a minute into each sketch.
A MacGruber movie could be a terrible idea, but Forte promised Fallon "it's maybe a little different than people are thinking." Maybe the combination of Forte, Kristen Wiig, a mullet and a few surprises will make this one worth watching.
And because I couldn't help myself from posting this, here's Forte singing his awesome version of the new Late Night theme song:

With Taccone helping write it (and directing, just like the shorts?), I am looking forward to it, though I would've hoped Samberg and Schaffer would've pitched in. I actually think this'll work, because obviously they'd had to have thought up a different idea than him dying within a minute. And inept super-agents movie parodies have been done before; Austin Powers was good, Get Smart missed it by that much. I imagine it in something like that vein.
Of course, it'd be hilarious if he kept on accidentally setting off explosions, and then from the wreckage outside, we just see him walk out each time, angry yet unscathed, as Terminator 2 music plays in the background.

"Will Forte, Friggin' Will Forte ..."
He is a scream - one of my fav SNL cast members. I'm still upset that he no longer does "The Falconer" sketches on that show ("Oh Donald ..."). Recently caught him at home on DVD in small roles in both 'Fanboys' and 'Baby Mama' and he's great in both.
Hope MacGruber is a hit for him.

I love Will Forte, but seriously, the world does not need a MacGruber movie.

I figure maybe the movie will be about the actors who play in a macgruber t.v. series. maybe even a 3 amigos scenario where the actors have to behave like their characters to foil some evil plot.

I'd definitely pirate the BitTorrent Cam-Version of this movie!

Seriously though, this is something that smells of direct-to-dvd...

That MacGruber sketch is everything wrong with SNL these days. Overused, overplayed, and dumb as a frigin rock. The fact that they are making a movie from it shows the only people who dont know SNL isn't funny more are SNL.
