Jon and Kate plus guest stars!

Kate Gosselin with Chef Duff.
Everyone knows that there is drama between Jon and Kate and the episode following the well-gawked-at season premiere totally blankets over the whole situation. Instead of having Jon and Kate face their demons, the show decided to pretend like nothing happened. The situation between Jon and Kate reminds me of the strain between Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. TLC decided to go the way of the ailing sitcom and implant celebrity guests. No more paparazzi shots and stress about the relationship; instead we'll get visits from outside forces. Yay for whitewashing.

Although this season isn't the first episode to have celebrities (The Harlem Globetrotters and Shane Victorino come to mind) it seems like the celebrities will be popping up more often. There must be struggles getting the ten Gosselins out into the world with the paparazzi hassling the family. To compensate, TLC will bring the world to the Gosselins.

Our first guests of the season were the crew over at Charm City Cakes. Anyone who watches Ace of Cakes knows how lovable Chef Duff and his rag-tag group of friends are so watching them interact with the children was amazing. The funny thing is that they never uttered the words Ace of Cakes; instead Kate mentions "that cake show." I appreciate that the show picked a show/brand that wasn't in the Discovery Network family, but I fear that Duff will be the last non-Discovery celebrity in a while. I'm a little surprised that they allowed a new episode of Cake Boss to show right after, but the two shows are quite different and probably have two different audiences.

As much as I love Duff Goldman and his cakes, I don't see why America can't have a few episodes where the show focuses on the children. Each child has gained a stronger personality (and a stronger command of English) and the parents having another set of one-on-ones are some of the best episodes. The episodes could even be Jon or Kate with one kid and they won't have to deal with their interpersonal struggles.

In the next two weeks we have more guest stars visiting the Gosselins. For the big 100th episode (I'm not sure how they counted the episodes but it's actually either episode 96 or 99 but I digress) Emeril Lagasse is cooking them dinner. The week after, the family from American Chopper is building Jon a motorcycle. From all the commercials, I thought that the Teutuls were going through familial/business struggles as well.

I guess we'll have to wait for more unnecessary crossovers to keep the audience entertained. Who would you like to see visit the Gosselins? Personally, I'm still waiting for the day when Bear Grylls brings Kate out into the woods and she freaks out every second she's outside. Then she'll admit that she's doing it for her kids. That's television gold waiting to happen.
