So...are you a D'Onofrio (Goren) fan or a Goldblum (Nicols) fan? I'm wondering if this "Goldblum this week, D'Onofrio next week" format is irritating longtime fans, or if longtime fans like having Goldblum in the mix too. Will they ever have Goldblum investigate a case with Kathryn Erbe?Last night was a Nichols/Wheeler episode, with the duo investigating the death of a con man's partner.

No. Goldblum is great.
Besides, they did the same thing with Chris Noth.

I hate Goldblum...since Jurassic Park with his whiny arrogance. I love D'Onofrio's episodes, so I hope the continue the show's format so I do not have to be irritated while watching one of the best L&O actors ever.

I know when Noth joined it was to help remove D'Onofrio from his hectic schedule but I had no idea we would NEVER see them work together. Same goes for Goldblum now.
That said, I always loved D'Onofrio but his episodes lately have been boring. I am not interested in this downward spiral of his and the "case" itself was terrible and quite predictable and it was a very weak "confession" moment.
I was so happy when USA picked up CI and I continue watching; but it's more for Nichols and Wheeler which I never thought would happen since I'm not a Goldblum fan.

Isn't Erbe going to step in for Wheeler when she goes on leave later this season?
Since CI is now only 13 episodes on USA, wouldn't it be cheaper just to have one team? The workload is also lighter.

@Edward, yes Eames will be featured in a episode with Wheeler and Nichols later in the season. Eames will be in the squad room with Wheeler when her water breaks which is how the actress leaves the show for maternity leave, she fills Eames in on the case she and Nichols were working on and Eames and Nichols carry on the case together.

I really wish you'd bring at least a little more to the table with these open threads. I mean, this is basically the same thing you posted about 2 months ago... "2 teams again... interested or irritated?"
There are other aspects to this series, and even if there weren't, next time, you could just post: L&O:CI, ditto [open thread]
And even 2 months ago I thought it was a silly question... Why would there be any fans left of this show if they hated the rotating team? And if it did continue to irritate fans of the show, that's okay, but they've been irritated for almost half a decade now... this is a little late for this observation.
I mean, I'd rather have an open thread about NBC/U re-using HRG's glasses from Heroes for Nichols.

Believe it or not those are Jeff Goldblum's real, personal eye glasses. They are not recycled from anywhere. And I dare to say nobody's choice but his own. YUK

Wasn't there a 2-part episode where both sets of partners worked on the same case, and there were some scenes of all the detectives together?
It's difficult to see why the alternating cast would suddenly be annoying when it's been the format since season 5; you either gave up then, or accepted it. I rather like it; it reminds me a bit of 'The Name of the Game', which had 3 rotating but interlinked casts. And it works better with 42-min "hours" than the shows which try to fit multiple subplots in one episode, or ignore some characters while concetrating on others.

I watch every other week to seen Bobby because of his character. I not happy with this every other week nonsense. I find it irritating! His character has a special way of solving cases. I wish they would be one every week.
