While the second season launch of Merlin is set to debut on BBC One this fall, in the UK, we're still waiting for the first season on NBC in the US. Finally, it's coming to NBC starting June 21 with a two-hour debut. Considering this went from a winter premiere in the states to a summer debut now doesn't make me feel NBC has a lot of faith in it.Or maybe NBC is actually seeing Merlin as a quality scripted summer program and truly embracing a twelve-month programming schedule. The shorter thirteen-episode run fits better in the three-month season between seasons. So maybe that second season will make it to NBC in summer 2010? Or at least BBC America if NBC loses faith in it completely.
A lot of the criticism of the series has been on the lack of historical accuracy, or at least as accurate as you can get when you're dealing with legend. And yet I don't find myself too concerned about it. The lack of historical accuracy hasn't hurt the entertainment value of Showtime's The Tudors one iota. I've always been fascinated with myths, legends, and tales of yore, so I'm really looking forward to this one. And it has Anthony (Stewart) Head as the King, so Buffy's loyal base might even be intrigued, as well.
Quite frankly, I'm shocked the US was even willing to put a dramatic series set in medieval times on broadcast television at all. It's been a while since historical anything (beyond Life on Mars' psuedo-1973) has found a home there, much less historical fantasy. Hell, Legend of the Seeker had to go syndication to find success. Maybe if NBC doesn't pick up the second season, there's hope for it in syndication on BBC America. At least they didn't try and Americanize it.

I'm really excited about this show, it sounds right up my alley. It would be nice if it turned out really good and there was some good quality television to watch once a week this summer. Way to go NBC for embracing something different than the typical DWTS-type shows you tend to see over the summer.

I don't understand why people complain about historical inaccuracies in Merlin. Almost all reputable historians now agree that Arthur and Merlin never actually existed, they're just legends, not real people. I can actually understand nitpicking at The Tudors over historical inaccuracy, since all of those people actually did exist, but Merlin? It's like complaining that Harry Potter is historically inaccurate. It's a fictional world people, not a documentary.

I'm currently watching it from UK, and I find the series really good. Even though some special effects aren't the best, the characters are engaging and funny. Also, the story is about teenage Merlin; when he met Arthur, Lancelot, Gwen, etc. so, there is no reason of complaining about historical background. It is an all new approach. I think it is refreshing and good!

I never knew the legend of merlin believe it or not maybe thats why I enjoyed series one so much. then recently an old film of merlin was aired on fiver and I realised what plp were saying about how different it was and personally comparing the film which as you all know is about grown up merlin to teeanage merlin makes no diference to me. the series is fresh without spoiling the story and gives more action. Tudors is ok but like previous plp have stated need to stick to the facts as it is a drama based on fact.

The stories they've told are ridiculously predictable. The acting is uniformly mediocre (even from the actors I know are capable of delivering more.)
It's ashame. I can forgive the poor CGI, historical/canon inaccuracies/au so long as there is something great that makes up for what ever is missing. Maybe this could have been cast and written as another great British comedy?
As is, Merlin, contrary to how it was sold to NBC, is the least 'magical' show I've ever seen from the BBC. I'm done with it.

Honestly, I can't say this is the BEST show, but it is very good and very entertaining. I always felt like they should have picked someone a little less dorky to play Merlin and someone a little less preppy ivy-league looking to play Arthur, but they're young and it doesn't bother me.
This show is definitely worth watching, as is Legend of the Seeker if anyone here has not seen that. I cannot wait for the new seasons for both of them!
Does anyone know of a way my "Americanizing" self (I resent that cheap shot from the article) can watch season 2 from the UK BBC so I don't have to wait for NBC to get their heads out of their asses and see its a good show?

With very, very few exceptions (such as "Lost"), the vast majority of the programming here in the US is either comprised of vapid 'reality' competitions, contemporary sitcoms, or contemporary cop/lawyer crime dramas. Compared to that fare, "Merlin" is like a breath of fresh air. I truly hope this cross-Atlantic venture pays off for NBC.

I absolutely love the show Merlin, and if season two doesn't come to the US, I will be really irritated. It's so wonderful, the setting is beautiful and its got amazing actors. If a show can inspire someone to begin writing again, then its amazing. If season two doesn't come here, they should at bloody well least put it on iTunes!

I hope they bring the second season of Merlin back to the US and I hope it is soon. If we had to wait until next summer that would really suck! Sure it would be better than never viewing it at all, but who wants to wait a whole year to find out what happens next in a series that you can hardly wait to find out what happens next from week to week! I hope people from the UK put up the episodes of season 2 online, so that the anxious fans here in the US can enjoy them sooner than later, or sadly, possibly never! :(
