Unless you've been in a coma for the past year and just woke up, you probably know that Conan O'Brien is the new host of The Tonight Show. He takes over on June 1.NBC has released the roster of guests for the first week of shows, and it's a mix of big stars, big musical guests, and one guest thrown into the mix that really sticks out. After the jump, the line-up.
Monday, June 1: Will Ferrell and Pearl Jam
Tuesday, June 2: Tom Hanks and Green Day
Wednesday, June 3: Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sheryl Crow
Thursday, June 4: Gwyneth Paltrow and John Mayer
Friday, June 5: Ryan Seacrest and Chickenfoot
Overall, a rather predictable, safe list. If you're going for big bands, I guess Pearl Jam and Green Day are the way to go. They won't get anyone older than baby boomers to tune in, but they're bands that appeal to both Generation Y and X (if that's what we're still calling those generations). Tom Hanks is always a great talk show guest, and Ryan Seacrest is host of the number one show on TV, so that makes sense.
The guest that sticks out is Chickenfoot. I didn't know who this was until I did a little digging. It's actually Van Halen 2.0. The band consists of ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar, ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and guitarist Joe Satriani. He's sort of the Steve Vai of this group (if I remember correctly, I think he actually taught Vai at one point). Vai was the guitarist in David Lee Roth's post-Van Halen group. So it all fits together.
Good to see that they still make supergroups.

I would have had Tom Hanks before Will Ferrell to start things off

Tom Hanks has always been one of my favourite Conan guests -- they have great comedic chemistry together. Should be a great first week!

Considering Green Day's been just about everywhere else recently, it's no surprise they'll be on The Tonight Show.
I'm not overfond of Will Ferrell, but I'll be there for at least the first couple nights.

Conan's selling point of his soon to end 16-year old 1:30 am show was that he had a lot of alternative bands to perform on it. When alternative rock was huge in 1993-1994, he championed and defended those bands and booked them on his show. I believe he's continuing that pattern on his new show. And he seems to be going into singer-songwriter rootsy rock with Sheryl Crow and John Mayer as musical guests that first week. So don't expect a lot of the mainstream pop, R&B, dance pop or rappers that you will see on Jimmy Kimmel and when Leno did it. Just go to the rival late night show to see them.

>"chickenfoot -- Good to see that they still make supergroups" Yeah, well, it's not _really_ a supergroup if you have to Google it to figure out who's in it and where they've been before. Mark
