The first 20 seconds of this video below could easily be mistaken for one of the real "I'm A PC" ads that Microsoft is currently running. Same filming style, same type of actress, the locations even look the same. But then it all goes horribly wrong (a few naughty words so a little NSFW).
Those commercials make me want to hurt people. I have a Mac, don't care if you own a PC or not, but everyone on those commercials acts like a huge prick. Sorry, I just grate my teeth every time they come on. Thanks God someone did this spoof, because I enjoyed it.
And not to get into the huge Mac vs PC argument, but Mac's commercials kick PC's commercials ass, hands down.
No, I can see how the Mac commercials may come off as prickish. It is the nature of commercials to bash their opponents. So Justin Long may come off as a douche, but he does that a lot of the time in other things. John Hodgeman is a funny guy, and at least they are having fun. Plus, the writing is a little better.
What bugs me about the PC commercials are the "real" people browsing the selections. Oh hey, look how real I am and look how I make my computer decisions. Annoying, at least for me. Then they go to the Mac's, say they aren't cool enough, or too expensive, or the style too sleek (only the price evaluation is worthwhile). Stupid reasons, stupid commercial. So ignoring the "prick" element, the PC commercials are just super phony.
Yeah, I think that is their biggest downfall. The price is just too high. Hopefully they will drop at some point and then everyone can be happy and dance and sing and what not. Sorry, that got weird.
But I think that's the idea. They're treating a computer like a designer purse or something... The whole business model of "Why shouldn't someone pay more for this, it's about the label!"
And hey, it's worked out for them. But these are computers, not purses or shoes! Damnit, Jim!
For me, Joseph, it isn't the label. I have been through too many years of hardship with Windows, because at first, it was all I knew. I was given a desktop (Windows 98), then I think we bought a brand new desktop when the other died (Windows XP), as well as an XP Laptop (Toshiba... also died at an extremely premature age. No misuse, Toshiba just makes crap), and now the new one is on its way out, just a few years later. And it barely gets used for anything but surfing the web. I've had to install so many crap Security programs just to keep it alive and fighting back over the years.
So, last year I decided it was time to try a new approach. And I feel like an idiot for not having switched to Mac sooner. If the only concession is me paying more to have a computer that has a reasonable lifespan (ie, as long as one might keep a car), I'll freaking do that. God knows I'm tired of paying left and right to fix this, and secure that on Windows.
So, they can keep their "I'm a PC" commercials. They were the second ones to use this idea for a commercial, and from the beginning it was obvious they didn't get the joke. It's easy to not get the joke when it's ON YOU (Hint Hint, Microsoft. I know you surf TV Squad).
People persist with the 'Macs are expensive' argument without factoring all you get out the box with a Mac. I challenge any PC to come pre-installed with a stable OS, bluetooth, wireless n networking, backup software, virus protection, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, and iWeb and sell it for $500--yet, you can get a Mac mini and get that for $599. Macbook for $999.

Wow, you say the PC commercials make everyone look like a prick and then defend the Mac commercials? Justin Long as the "Mac" is a total prick.

Look, I work for Best Buy, and Macs REALLY need a price cut. If they had the 1299 model macbook at 999, they'd really move a lot more of them.
