It's been a long time since the Super Friends were on television. To prove it, DC Comics has released a preview of the new Superman/Batman: Public Enemies video, the latest in their animated onslaught of the direct-to-DVD market.Like most of the stuff DC Comics produces for the animated market, this one is based on a comic book. The basic plot is the Lex Luthor is the President of the United States and declares Superman and Batman as, you guessed it, public enemies.
Looking at the preview, two thoughts come to mind. First, the American animation style is no longer present in action movies (although it's still around for comedies) and has been superseded by the Japanese style. The movie looks like anime, plain and simple. Second, there are an awful lot of villains in the movie, plus quite possibly the coolest-looking mad-scientist rocket ever.
The video follows so you can judge for yourself.

Stylistically it looks just okay, I prefer the 1990s Batman cartoon style. As the story I saw none and just a bunch of characters that only the most hardcore comic nerd will enjoy.
If you didn't explain the plot I would never guess.

Doesn't look all that much like anime to me, though it does look a good bit like McGuinness's art. And yeah, there are a lot of villains in there... just like in the comic books upon which this flick appears to be based.
Also, while it's been a while since "Super Friends" proper was on, I don't see how this preview proves that! DC Superheroes team up regularly on television, though -- JLU didn't end *that* long ago, and Batman's been teaming up with other heroes (and the occasional villain) on his solo shows for the past couple of years.
Anyway, the preview looks cool. ;P

Eh, it didn't look that much like anime to me, just the more realistic style dramatic/action pieces have been trending toward since the early-mid 90's when Paul Dini started doing Batman and Superman.
But even if it did look like anime, so what?
