Well, this is a rather interesting development, and a good one for fans of NBC's Medium: CBS has picked up the show after NBC canceled it.You don't often see that happening, but it's been happening more and more lately (and this upfront week is crazy in general, with lots of renewals for shows we all thought were pretty much dead). CBS didn't just pick up the show, they got in a few digs at NBC too. CBS Television Studios produces Medium, and they say that "NBC's cancellation of Medium is inexplicable to us," and went on to point out that "the ratings don't lie. Medium outperforms many of NBC's renewed shows." They also talk about how NBC scheduled the show inconsistently.
No word yet on what exactly CBS will do with the show. Perhaps pairing it with Ghost Whisperer on Friday nights? (Note: CBS will not, however, pick up Knight Rider. Sorry, fans!)

No shocker. Medium is produced by CBS Productions, NBC wanted to pick it up, but only for 13 episodes, that didn't work out, so now it's off to CBS.
Also, Earl is produced by Fox, so there's a chance that it ends up over there.

NBC really screwed the pooch on this with that stupid Jay Leno deal--they dumped Medium because it interferred with Jay's new time-slot, I believe.
Now I have ABSOLUTELY no reason to ever watch NBC.
I'm just glad Medium was picked up!

No, according to Deadline Hollywood NBC picked it up, but only for 13 eps. Medium's production company, CBS, wanted 22 so they went their own way. NBC picked it up, but CBS didn't like their terms.

Exactly, they were trying to shoehorn it in to their new "half-seasons" so they can fit Leno in at 10, while making everyone that works on these shows lose about half of the work they would do in a normal season.
Thanks CBS!!!!

So glad! Medium is a great show...Joe and Allison have one of the most believable relationships on TV.

Oh come on CBS pick up Life too. If Life debuted on CBS instead of Mentalist and is paired with NCIS on tuesday's it would have rocked the rating. At least now we have some hope that CBS might pick up other NBC stepchilds.

This should happen more often. It seems like Scrubs to ABC, Medium to CBS and Earl to Fox...
CW should learn something and pick up some shows with an existing audience...

It actually is weird that they picked it up, seeing as they canceled Without A Trace and Eleventh Hour, 2 shows with better ratings than Medium.
CBS has had alright luck with picking up canceled NBC shows in the past, JAG.

Score! I am right this moment watching last night's episode and was, until I read this, mourning the loss of it from the fall schedule.
Way to go, CBS!

Putting on Leno at the time they have every weekday is just lazy. They could have tried something different by moving him, had him on a couple of times a week, maybe monday and friday to start and end the week. Made each show a big deal as oppose to just more of the same. They could have breathed new life into the US network talk show format, but they're clearly just giving up and trying to save money.

One of the things is since CBS (Studios) produces the show, CBS (Network) can probably get a better cost per play on the show.
Of course the other thing is Medium is at like 95 episodes now, 5 away from the mad syndication money for CBS (Studios). At least that's how it used to work, 100 as a magic number is not so much in stone, although expect to see if show up in TNT daytime or somesuch.

The source article has been updated: the pickup hasn't happened yet. It's just still possible. I guess we'll know when CBS unveils their schedule tomorrow.
VP: CBS doesn't have a good financial reason to pick up Life, because Life is an NBCU-produced show. Medium is a CBS Paramount Network TV show.
MrC: Medium is already in syndication on Lifetime.

"NBC's cancellation of Medium is inexplicable to us,"
That's...not an insult. It's a statement of opinion. An insult would be "NBC is the dumbest network ever, and we can't believe the whack-a-moles they've got running the place."
But whatever. I didn't watch Medium on NBC, and I'm pretty sure I won't be watching it on CBS..

NBC IS A DINOSAUR!
THEY ARE ALMOST FINISHED AS A NETWORK!
Medium is a great show. NBC gets rid of Leno with high ratings and puts Conan in with his lower ratings. NBC gets rid of Medium after treating one of their highest rated shows like a stepchild to most of their dreck on the air! They can't program their way out of a paper bag!

Someone should pick up Knight Rider and use David Hasselhoff to replace Edward Mulhare. IMHO "KR" is a lot better than some of the junk that is on these days!!!

Kudos to picking up "Medium," CBS! Oh, what can I say here other than - I agree with VP. CBS, it would be nice to resurrect a quality show like "Life" from that, hmmm,
whatchamacallit -- is it that "NBC-PU" produced network?
It's a shame we, the audience, have to deal with all this nonsense year in and year out, year after year. Why do these networks always do away with quality shows only to
"force feed" us the miserly ones with the always lame and so-called "demographic" excuse -- TiVo is it? Hmmmm.
Demographics, huh? It's more like "propaganda-specific" audience, is it not? It's all business they say. Well, if someone up there was really, really thinking (which makes
one ponder the question, hmm) or is really, really, really thinking "green" as they say -- in dollars and "sense" -- then would it not be financially feasible to come up with a "Reality Channel Network" outside of basic television programming? Let "them" do the math! Why don't they just leave the "real" programming and the "real" shows, the quality ones, to the "real" people -- us! Now...THAT would interesting to see....try to "stage" that!

Now what happens if Medium tanks on CBS, and is canceled? The CBS exec looks like a moron, and the NBC exec laughs every morning.

Thank you CBS for picking up Medium. It's one of my favorite shows. I'm sick of the reality-type shows. We need more sitcoms for the 8:00 - 9:00 slots and more clever shows like Castle, Medium, Ghost Whisperer for the later time slots. The only good thing about Jay Leno being on at 10:00 (is this correct?) is that now I will be able to go to bed at 10 and not miss any of my favorite shows or get backlogged taping them.
