What with all the hoopla surrounding Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon, it's easy to forget NBC's other late night talk show. For those that forgot about him (like me), Carson Daly hosts Last Call with Carson Daly on NBC at 1:35 A.M., following Jimmy Fallon. Just an FYI for those fans, the show has been renewed.Holy frickin' crap! NBC has three and a half hours of late night talk show programming. Granted, it's cheaper to do, but won't they run out of potential guests after about two weeks? It will become like reality television. People will become famous just for appearing on the show.
On the other hand, NBC could be grooming Carson Daly to eventually take over for Jimmy Fallon. Of course, if that were the case, Carson has being doing the show-hosting thing longer than Fallon. Why involve Fallon to begin with if that was their intent?
Does anybody out there watch Carson Daly's show? What do you think of it?

With Jay Leno being on when he will be I think it needs to stop being called Late Night talk show programming, it's just talk shows. NBC are giving up.

Carson's show is so bad it's funny. I can only assume he works for peanuts, and that no self respecting A-lister would even return his calls let alone appear on his show.
Oddly enough, the show actually improved slightly (if you can call it that) when they cut the band, skits and the studio audience.
Carson makes Kimmel look like a comedy genius.

The guest has to be one of my particular favourites for me to even consider putting up with Carson to see them. I regularly wonder how he manages to keep a show on the air.

In the past, “Last Call” looked like a regular late night talk show with monologue, guest, live music, and studio audience. Carson tried (and failed) to do planned comedy bits that are lamer that Jimmy Fallon’s, which isn’t good at all. But, in the past couple of months, Carson and staff quietly changed their format into a magazine-like show. Now he does his stand-ups in locations around Los Angeles and tosses to his segments. Carson still does a sit down interview in the studio, but everything is pre-taped. Sometimes he does a special theme show on new rising artists. The editing is stylized and it moves pretty well for a 30 minute show. “Last Call” is not your typical talk show anymore. I liked the new changes. NBC should syndicate the episodes to other channels for repurpose.

The re-imagined "Last Call", which at first was just for a special week I think but then stuck, has been a 1000% improvement over before. I still don't watch it regularly, but I don't hate it like I used to. Carson just couldn't do the comedy thing very well, but he's a pretty good interviewer and the new format works for him.
Plus, it's strong in its promotion of up-and-coming music -- with MTV not even playing music videos anymore, his show is probably the best "first break" you can get in the business right now.
