Just when you thought this series was going to be a one seasoner, ABC goes ahead and does this.
The network has renewed Castle for a second season. ABC hasn't said how many episodes the renewal is for. In fact, they haven't even said officially that the show has been picked up for a second season. We won't find out until this Tuesday, May 19, when the network unveils all of the new shows (and which of the old ones are staying or going away) at their upfront presentation.
For me, this is rather mundane news. It's not a horrible show by any means, but I just don't find anything particularly interesting or new about it. Of course, a TV show doesn't have to be groundbreaking to be good, but I've seen "bantering potential love interests solving crimes" shows done better than this. Maybe the plots will get better and we'll get even more Susan Sullivan and cool poker games.

Really. There is absolutely nothing interesting or unique about this show. It is utterly and completely banal.
And I am a Firefly fanatic. I so very much wanted to like this show because of its lead. I tried so hard. But it is just a bad show.

I enjoy it. It's fun if not overly challenging. And so what if it is in the same mould as "Hart To Hart," "Bones" and "Remington Steele." They were/are good, fun shows. What would you rather see in the time slot, bearing in mind that complainers with the ear of the FCC have made sure that we won't be seeing a solid, gritty, challenging show like "NYPD Blue" on network TV for the foreseeable future?

I don't know. When shows like this get renewed, it takes a spot out of the schedule that could be filled by a quality show, and it shows that mediocre effort gets rewarded.

I agree with you 100%, but the problem is ABC has replaced it with The Bachelorette & Dancing With the Stars also NBC has Deal or No Deal and as far as I'm concerned those game & reality shows are far worse than Castle could ever be!!!

Castle is not a great show, but it is a good show. I found Bones a little too CSI, but Castle is just right for me. Nathan Fillion deserves the work :) and the show has a built-in gimmick -- they can release a pulpy Castle novel between seasons.

Not sure ABC has much choice...they have canceled damn near everything else. ABC took a slash and burn approach to their lineup - among the shows killed this season are: Pushing Daisies, Men in Trees, Boston Legal, Life on Mars, and Dirty Sexy Money. That basically leaves them Greys, DWTS, the final season of Lost and DHW to anchor the entire network.

This is great news to me. I agree, the current mysteries aren't groundbreaking by any stretch, but the characters are so great to visit with each week it makes watching the show enjoyable. If you can't enjoy a show then why watch? Nathan Fillion & Stana Katic are great in their respective roles. I'll be watching for as long as the show gets renewed.

I'm pleased ABC is giving Castle a chance. It's not a great show, but the people on it (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, Susan Sullivan) are terrific. The writers will have to add some more flair to the show if it's going to survive past next season.

Castle is by far the best and most exciting new show of the season -- great stories, funny banter and a great cast to support it all. It is a show that I never miss. It placed a very strong number 4 on the USA TODAY poll to SAVE OUR SHOWS and it shocked the newspaper but not to us viewers. Nathan Fillion is hilarious and truthfully it is one show that I have looked forward to every week.

I was very happy to hear that Castle was renewed. It had pretty good ratings and is an excellent show. It may follow the same fashion as other cop shows, but it is different, exciting, and the writing and acting is phenomenal. I wrote to ABC telling them to pick up Castle, Better off Ted and The Unusuals. I also created a special picture for Castle and the Unusuals. They are all good shows and need to be renewed!!
