Rejoice, Whedonites! His latest television venture, Dollhouse, has been renewed by Fox for a second season of 13 episodes, thus proving the existence of God.Seriously, I'm very happy about this news, particularly since it shows that Fox learns from its mistakes and doesn't simply rely on pure ratings (which is an unreliable and outdated system to begin with) to make business decisions. Did I think Season 1 was the best series ever produced? No. However, I trust in Joss and really liked the ending of Season 1. Sometimes it takes the man until the second season to really produce great television, Buffy being the prime example.
I do wonder where the show will go for a Season 2, although the possibilities are endless. The return of Alpha would be redundant. It's difficult to have character growth for Echo since her mind is wiped every week. I suppose we will find out next year.

This is super exciting but I can't help be skeptical. Are we absolutely sure this is happening?

Dollhouse gets 2 seasons and Firefly doesn't. Life is unfair.

I liked Season 1 UNTIL the finale which was 10,000 kinds of suck. They turned Alpha into a ridiculous, brainless stalker.

Assuming this is true, it means I can go back and watch Season 1. Due to Fox's history of cancelling good shows after a brief initial season and never letting them have a chance to grow or even find an audience, I have a personal policy of never watching the first season of any new show on Fox until I learn it's been given a second season. Fox has burned me too many times by having great drama and sci-fi shows I like end on a cliffhanger and then never get a second season. It's too frustrating. I'd rather just not watch the show until I know it has some degree of a future.
It's better to have never watched than to have watched and be left disappointed.
That being said, the whole premise of dollhouse makes absolutely no sense (underground, illegal, but they only do altruistic things like helping traumatized children and hostage negotiations... plus how can it stay so well-hidden if anyone who needs a well-trained maid can pick up the phone and get a programmed supermaid doll?)

Miracles do exist. The big question now is where will it air? If it's on Friday nights, then Fox hasn't fixed their problem.

It shouldn't matter when they air it. On demand, DVR, Hulu -- these are the tools of the people with disposable income that advertisers lust after.

Does this mean we can finally retire the whole "FOX SUX THEY CANCEL EVERYTHING!!!!!" thing? They just renewed one of the lowest rated shows they have, a show that dropped off every week. Ratings may be a somewhat outdated system, but seriously the only fox shows that did worse were the 6:30 central rerun of American Dad and the already pulled Sit Down Shut Up.

If anybody says FOX is terrible for canceling shows again they are a liar.
By the way I really liked Dollhouse and am elated that it's returning, but I also follow ratings obsessively, and if FOX ever had a show they had every reason to cancel it was Dollhouse, everyone who loves Dollhouse should be thanking their respective Gods it was on FOX, because ABC, NBC or CBS would have pulled it after 5 eps.

Don't start going crazy, now. NBC, of all networks, would have given Joss a lot of leeway. I think ABC would have too. And they probably wouldn't have put the show on Friday's either.
(After NBC's renewing of Southland, I'm sure they would have renewed Dollhouse with similar numbers)

Southland has been slipping sence it's debut sure, but to be fair even it's saturday replay does better than Dollhouse. Dollhouse and Southland are not the same.
In short, neither ABC nor NBC would EVER renew a show that got a 1 share. NBC Pulled Kings a show that was getting MUCH higher ratings than Dollhouse on Sundays a similar night. And ABC canceled Life on Mars a show that was getting a 4 share.
It's time you all give Fox the credit they deserve. They are the ONLY major network who would have done this.

Nope, Fox doesn't get a pass until it happens at least a handful of times. Once can be written off as a statistical anomaly.

It needs to be paired with Fringe (maybe with a repeat of the first series on a decent night to cover the season and garner an audience) but if they are looking to cut the budget then it would suggest its sticking on Friday nights and this will be the last season.
Whedon will hopefully treat it as such and ideally just give fans a treat by wrapping it up and giving some fan treats by filling the dollhouse with Whedon alumni like Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin and James Marsters as replacement dolls.

so that gives us hope for a 13 episode run for terminator:the sarah connor chronicles because while i thought dollhouse was good, TSCC was twice as epic and twice as thrilling. fox make it happen and i'll love you

Terminator's a great show too, and it REALLY got good right at the end, but I think it's season 2 WAS its second chance...

It's fantastic news, except for the fact that Amy Acker is in the cast for Happy Town, which has been picked up by ABC. Who knows what this will do to her role on Dollhouse.

TSCC was far better. And it built to a fantastic conclusion. It was a better show than Dollhouse on almost every level.
