Reaper refuses to abandon all hope

The cast of TV's There are a lot of shows with their heads on the chopping block, but one that truly deserves a stay of execution is furiously wiggling its head out of the neck brace.

Show producers are negotiating with local CW affiliates to bring Reaper back on Sunday nights next season in syndication. The deal could also bring the show to cable.

The Hollywood Reporter, however, notes that either scenario is a bigger long shot than Roseanne's chances of getting another crack at singing the National Anthem at a Padres' home game.

The paper notes that economics could play a big factor in the show's future, since syndicated shows are created on smaller budgets, and Reaper can be a highly complex mix of special effects and demon makeup. So unless the show could find some real demons willing to work for scale ...

Then Tyler Labine has committed to doing a pilot for ABC that the network just picked up for its new season. If the show takes off, he might have to give up his role on Reaper as part of his new contract. And the last thing anyone wants to do in TV land is break their contract. Satan only demands a pound of human flesh and the heart of a sinner for breaking one of his clauses. That's an overdue library fine compared to what a major TV network demands for breaking one of its contracts.

It seems the only way this show can survive another season is by way of a divine miracle. So if you've started praying to the god of your choice to save this show, stop already. God has bigger beefs on his plate. Then again, if God does save Reaper from cancellation, that might explain a lot of other things like swine flu and Dick Cheney.
