OK, I actually loved watching the latest version of American Gladiators on NBC, but even I think this is a weird idea. But it's actually happening. American Gladiators: The Movie is in the works, according to show creator Johnny Ferraro.

Ferraro says American Gladiators was originally conceived as a film more than 20 years ago, but instead became a "TV phenomenon." I'm not sure how a game show that's basically WWE Smackdown meets Double Dare was originally conceived as a film, but what do I know. I like to watch American Gladiators.

The upcoming AG movie will reportedly be an action flick that features new Gladiator characters and takes place "inside the world Ferraro has created." I don't know what that means, but something tells me it's a world filled with ephedrine and lots and lots of protein shakes.

Film producer Scott Mednick, whose credits include 300 and the upcoming live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flick, is developing the movie with Ferraro and Jo Allegro, executive producer of Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders (I'm not kidding).

Any American Gladiators fans out there looking forward to this?
