Smallville: Injustice

Smallville(S08E21) So my guess at having a big fight between the Justice League and the Injustice League in the season finale (with Doomsday fighting on the side of Injustice) didn't quite pan out. Still, it was a nice idea.

Let me start by asking: exactly what happened with Tess at the end? She's been working for Jor-El? It will likely be clarified next week, but still...

Tonight's review is more random thoughts than anything coherent. Up, up and away...

There were lots of shout-outs to comic book continuity tonight. All the Injustice League (except Eva) were super-villains that fought Superman at one time or another in the medium (well, except Plastique. She was Firestorm's baddie. Besides that, we had Neutron the Living Bomb, LiveWire and Parasite). Did anybody else notice the Veritas symbol on their lapels (at least, I think it was Veritas)? They even mentioned Belle Reve prison, which is a staple of the Superman comic.

There were a lot of callbacks tonight, as well: Black Creek. Black Kryptonite. I could make some sort of racism joke, but it would be too easy.

I've often felt since she was introduced that Tess Mercer had crazy eyes. She rarely even blinks.

I dug Clark referring to himself as "Alien Jesus". That analogy has been used many times before.

The twist with Eva was excellent. I didn't catch that one at all. I thought Chloe had legitimately escaped and was playing both sides. It was also a nice way to use Allison Mack in the episode without having Chloe actually appear.

Emil Hamilton is some kind of super-doctor if he can analyze various biologies as well as track a GPS signal. Perhaps he's also a meteor freak.

Could Tess listen in on the conversations of everybody with chips in their head? If so, it explains why Eva's murder happened when it did. Why couldn't Clark burn out the implants with his heat vision? Doesn't he have more control over that power nowadays?

Why does nobody in this show stick with an opinion? Everything is "sometimes."

That fingerprint reader is a pretty awesome app. Is it available for iPhone? I looked in iTunes for it and all I could find were fingerprint scanning simulators.

Even the energy that powers Clark is red and blue. That figures.

Tess now has her proof of Clark's secret life. She accomplished something Lex couldn't. This likely means that she'll die before the season's end. And then Oliver (who is obviously still harboring a crush) will be sad.

I did like tonight's episode, although a team vs. team fight for the season finale would have been more exciting. The plot was good and the twist was surprising. I guess my only real complaint is that character development is kind of random. When did Oliver become so bloodthirsty?

Some of the characters are supposed to die next week in the season finale, and based on the coming attractions, it looks like it will be none of the good guys. Tom Welling and Erica Durance are already signed for next season, so who do you think is going to kick it?
