The wit and wisdom of ABC News on YouTube

ABC News on YouTubeThe announcement of an ABC News branded channel on YouTube yesterday is a little puzzling. First, if you go to the site, the info bar indicates that "ABC News" joined YouTube August 7, 2006. So, maybe they've been working feverishly for nearly three years on this, and they were finally ready to tell people about it.

The site will feature news from several ABC programs, like Good Morning America, 20/20, Nightline, ABC World News, and This Week with George Stephanopoulos. And, as a bonus, we get the "Quick Fix" segment, which ABC called "a daily dose of wit and occasionally wisdom" from ABC correspondents.

So far, there are twelve videos in the Quick Fix section. Most of them are just under three minutes long, which, on YouTube, is an eternity. One segment, from ABC News Correspondent Juju Chang, is called "Juju Juggles," intended for parents. This is apparently the "occasional wisdom" part, although judging by "The Lovey Stops Loving" segment, the wisdom doesn't extend to even sound mixing or judicious use of camera effects.

But who can resist clicking on "Juju Juggles with Marie Osmond"? The segment features the phrase, "Juju, leave the penis alone." We'll let you click on it for the context.

A segment on whether the bank stress tests are full of crap is a bit more amusing, with a point of view that might actually be useful. The most intriguing premise – Dan Harris tries to outrun elephants in a segment called "Holy Crap! I'm Being Chased by Elephants." But, alas, no trampling. Just some brisk jogging and a teaser for an upcoming story on ... gorillas.
