If this doesn't put a nail in the coffin of the Seinfeld curse (does anyone still buy into that?), then nothing will. If CBS decides not to give The New Adventures of Old Christine a fifth season pickup -- and right now they're not committing either way -- ABC is going to add Julia Louis-Dreyfus and company to its roster. This was rumored a few weeks ago, but now it's confirmed. ABC has sealed the deal to give Christine 22 episodes in a back up guarantee with Warner Brothers TV .This isn't the first time ABC has offered to be Christine's home. It made a similar offer last season, then CBS decided they did want Julia's sitcom after all. Apparently ABC's head man Steve McPherson is a big fan of the show.
So Christine is now sitting in the cat bird seat. If CBS chooses not to pick it up, ABC will and fans of the quirky comedy can rest easily knowing that there's more Christine, Richard, Matthew, Barb, new Christine, Richie and the mean blondes in the future.
CBS's upfront is scheduled for May 20 and currently rumors have leaked that Without a Trace and Cold Case are also bubble shows. I would imagine The Unit is also iffy, and as for sitcoms, if there's a choice between Gary Unmarried and Rules of Engagement, I think the latter is coming back. CBS could renew Christine and keep it on Wednesdays and slot a new sitcom behind it, like it did this season with good -- if not great -- results. Personally, I loved Christine on Mondays with the other CBS sitcoms, but that's just me. I believe more is more and I want all the yucks I can get in any one sitting!

You know, this series gets a bad rap. Is it great television? No, but is it fun television with a quirky cast and laugh-out-loud moments? Yes. If they had more of Wanda Sykes it would be even more funny.

Can they package it up with Gary Unmarried? I'd like to see that one get another run... if they can just fix the whiny wife syndrome that is.

I was sooooo happy yesterday when I read this! I just love "Christine" and glad to know she's coming back (no matter where she happens to land).

The head of the network, Steve McPherson, likes everyone else's shows (e.g., Scrubs and Christine) but can't muster enough enthusiasm to save his own, Pushing Daisies?
The man should be fired.
