(S05E21) "This is going to come out of nowhere but ..." - Jackson to Susan
As you know, actor Gale Harold, who plays Jackson, had a terrible accident last fall and had to be written out of the show so that the actor could recover from his injuries. The writers decided to have Jackson get a job outside of town. Except for learning that Jackson asked Susan to move away with him, we haven't heard much from the character and his relationship with Susan since then. My brain doesn't recall Susan clearly stating that things were over between Jackson and her, and we haven't seen her date since Jackson skipped town. Therefore, I've sort of been thinking they were doing the long-distance thing or still wondering where things stood between them.
When the actor got back in shape and was able to return to the set, the writers wrote him back in, and this week's episode marked his unexpected return. Jackson arrived with a question, helped give us answers as to where his relationship with Susan stood, and gave Dave a good reason to be scared.
So we learned that Susan and Jackson sort of decided to move on when he moved away. It's clear that Jackson doesn't have the same feelings he had for her before he moved away. However, it wouldn't surprise me if some feelings come rushing back as his plan to stay in the country is put in motion. Poor Susan. She spilled her heart out to him when Jackson asked her to marry him, and seconds later, he figuratively stabbed her heart by telling her it's just so he won't be deported to Canada. Who knew that Jackson was Canadian? I certainly didn't remember that as I watched this week's episode, so having him ask Susan to marry him so he wouldn't be deported came out of left field for me. I knew Jackson was set to propose, but I thought it would be a sort of "I realized I couldn't live without you anymore. Will you marry me?" type of proposal.
It will be really interesting to see how this fake marriage goes given their romantic history and the fact that Susan has a way of saying the wrong things at the wrong times. I can already imagine her putting her foot in her mouth when the Immigration employee asks them questions about their marriage, etc.
Even if it's a fake marriage, they'll have to pretend it's the real deal. It wouldn't surprise me that the announcement gives Mike the push he needs to ask Katherine to marry him. Mike told Kat that he loves her but isn't ready to remarry. Knowing that Susan is officially moving on may have Mike deciding to do the same, don't you think?
Elsewhere on Wisteria Lane, Gaby learned that inner beauty is more important than makeup; Tom, who is still going through his mid-life crisis, told Lynette he needs another passion; Bree admitted she is willing to go the extra mile to get what she wants. Out of those three storylines, Bree's was the most entertaining because it involved Karl. We've mostly seen Karl interact as Susan's ex, and we don't know much about him other than than he's a scumbag. Therefore, I'm looking forward to seeing him under a different light and interacting with Bree. It'll be fun to see how low he'll go to help Bree out and how his doings will affect her values and life. Will sparks fly between Bree and Karl as they work together to move her assets around and draft all the divorce papers? Imagine what Susan would do/think if both her exes (Mike and Karl) end up dating/marrying two of her closest friends!
I can't end this review without talking about the Dave storyline. We definitely saw this week that Dave is goal driven. Knowing that Susan was behind the wheel gave Dave a new goal (aka kill her and MJ), which put him back on his feet. He sure looked well and confident this week, no? But that confidence was shattered when Dave learned that the detectives were still on the fire case and that they wanted to see Jackson because he may have information on who killed the doctor. Dave may decide to slightly alter his plan now and kill Jackson before he deals with Susan and MJ or deal with all three at once. Will there be a groom to walk down the aisle with Susan? Or will Dave decide to strike at the wedding? Only three hours left this season to provide answers!

I was slightly irritated by the Gaby story - not only by her failure to practice what she preached (her shallowness and egotism won out - again), but by the writer's insistence that her daughter is only 6 years old. The girl who plays Juanita is a very good little actress, but 6? I don't believe it for a moment...especially when you notice she no longer has her baby teeth, but full adult front teeth. Unless I'm terribly mistaken, don't most 6-year olds still have their baby teeth or are just beginning the process of losing them? Juanita looks more like she's 8, or 7-and-a-half at the youngest. She's always looked older than the age the writers profess her to be. (end rant)
And, did Gaby truly learn anything by this incident? I doubt that the pained expression on Juanita's face did much to break Gaby's shallow mindset.
Lastly, why do we rarely see the younger daughter? She hardly ever has any screen time, much less lines - I don't even know her name. C'mon, writers, a little development here!

Worse than saying Gaby's daughter is 6 is the fact that she was only 4 when the season began (remember we skipped ahead 5 years and Gaby wasn't even pregnant at the end of last season).
How did she suddenly become the same age or older than MJ who was born at least 9 months before her?

they can kind of get away with Juanita's age because she is overweight, but it still is reaching. i too was perplexed when it was mentioned she was six years old.

I lost my first baby tooth when I was 4. My mom freaked out but the doctor said it was normal. So her teeth ain't the problem...it's the timeline.

I found this episode annoying for one reason: Tom Scavo. He has always been a little pathetic and whipped, but this mid-like crisis storyline is getting over the top. Tom has become such an unlikeable character.

I'm sick of Tom's mid-life crisis, too. When he was whining about "I need something else..." I would have said, "That's what you said when you quit your job and decided to open a Pizza Parlor." I mean, I know relationships are about support, but how long is Lynette supposed to put up with this whining willow before she just slaps him and says, "Get the hell out there and get a job and quit your b*tching." LOL

I can't remember when, but they did say that Jackson and Susan were over, probably when she wouldn't move with him. It was assumed they were through.
Overall, the entire episode disappointed me. We're near the end of the season, and there's nothing going on in Dave World. Plus, the only good piece of info--the detectives--was belittled because of all the stupid stuff going on with everyone else. If you blinked, you missed it. This should have been around episode 8, not episode 21.

Susan's reaction when she found out the reason behind Jackson's proposal was hilarious. I'm glad Gale is back!

Totalllly light hearted comment but...
Does anyone else HATE Jacksons hair. It looks like a bad wig sitting on the top of his head. He is a good looking guy but that just looks so wrong!

I am finding myself resenting Tom for the way he is with Lynette. She's beared with him and his stupid mid-life crisis for too long. Its time for Tom to just accept his life the way it is and stop whining about everything.

It was a good episode. Gaby's storyline was nice but my favourite was Susan's. Teri's performance was amazing.
I'm glad to see Gale Harold back.

Was Nicollete's name in last weeks credits? I may be completely crazy, but I thought her name was removed the episode after Edie died. So I was shocked to see her name in the credits.

Didn't Susan realize she had always been in a relationship and decided to try being alone? Think it was the ep when she was trapped in the basement with Edie, ep12. Also, only me who was annoyed by the complete absence of the scavo kids?
