When a show becomes a cult hit, what better way for the franchise to make extra cash then by selling all the props and sets from the show? It worked for Star Trek, among others. This is likely why NBC Universal will be hosting its second live and online auction of the remaining props from Battlestar Galactica from May 8th to the 10th. They even sent us a promotional catalog of the props available for the event.
The catalog itself looks terrific and may be a collector's item all its own. It's done in the hexagonal paper style of the show and looks incredible.
I wish I had the time to go over the sheer volume of merchandise available for auction, but there are thousands of pieces which include production art, costumes, ships, props, and pieces of various sets. The minimum expected bid for the items is about $200 for some concept art and the prices goes up to $30,000 for the Blackbird Stealth Fighter designed by Tyrol (sadly the ship doesn't actually fly, but is the sit-in model they used for shooting).
I'd be a kid in a candy store for this auction (sadly, I must wait for the mass-produced low-price version of these props). If I had the cash, I would happily try to get the Resurrection Tub or the Galactica Podium or maybe just one of the space-rifles or perhaps all of the above. If you do have the spare money, I can only be jealous of you. They're not cheap, but they're one of a kind.
Now if only NBC Universal could send me an early copy of the Battlestar Galactica 4.5 DVD's to review. Hint, hint.

This is almost as great as the winning an actual Time Machine prop...
