That's right. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clark Griswold himself is starring in a comedy pilot for NBC that's "pretty much a lock" to be picked up as a series. The show is called Community and it's described as "Stripes at a community college." (Hmm. Didn't Stripes star Bill Murray and Harold Ramis?) If the series is picked up, it will mark Chevy Chase's first full-time primetime series gig.
Months ago, I would've been baffled by this news. The best thing Chase has done in the last ten years was probably his cameo in Orange County, or his brief appearance on Family Guy. I thought he'd be stuck in junk like Zoom and Funny Money forever, but then he started showing up on shows like Brothers & Sisters and Chuck.
I guess, as Spies Like Us taught me, you should never underestimate an underdog. It's never too late for a career revival, even for the man who helped bring us Cops and Robbersons.
Many of NBC's planned "infront" (advertiser and executive only) new pilot screenings were postponed Thursday after the death of Nora O'Brien, NBC's VP of drama development. Community was one of the few pilots screened for network execs this week, along with David E. Kelley's Legally Mad and Lost & Found, the Dick Wolf procedural starring Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff. According to THR, the latter two received mixed reactions from the network, but Community was a hit. The new version of Parenthood and the action drama Trauma are also expected to make it to series.
I'm looking forward to Lost & Found and Community. They might not be the most original sounding shows, but I think the stars – Chase and Sackhoff -- might make them worth watching.

Spies like Us. Wow, that bring memories of me eating Lucky Charms and peeing on the carpet. I was excited when I saw Chevy Chase come out as a news anchor on SNL not too long ago. I hope this will go well for him. Good luck, Chevy.

I just wish that it was a multi camera show --doesn't nbc know that's where they have had their biggest sitcom success??? Seriously someone at nbc should be fired, they could have also used Heroes or chuck after the superbowl instead of the office -- which got zero benefit like Grey's anatomy did, etc.
Anyways, so happy that chevy chase will be back in primetime.
