I bet a lot of Moonlight fans tuned into Criminal Minds last night to see Alex O'Loughlin star as a serial killer; if they knew he was on it, that is. Oh, who am I kidding? The real Moonlight fans probably knew about the casting before O'Loughlin did.
What did you think of the episode? Criminal Minds is one of those shows that does pretty well in the ratings but no one really seems to talk about. So, talk about it.

I didn't watch Moonlight, but I'm an avid CM fan. The writing is superb, the cast knocks my socks off, and the online discussions of the layers and depth of the characters are some of the most fascinating and insightful I've had the pleasure of reading. This was another excellent episode, even better for those who watch enough to catch the character evolution. I wish it was still reviewed here regularly.

I am an avid watcher of CM and have been with the series since the pilot. I have to also say that I was a huge fan of Moonlight and hated that it died an early death. I watched last night's episode and I wasn't as moved as I hoped I would be. The episode reminded me of an episode of Fox's "MIllenniuM" (another EXCELLENT series that never saw its potential realized) entitled "Wide Open" in which there is a killer targeting open houses which was one of the best episodes in season 1 of that series also, in that series episode, the killer witnessed the murder of his aunt & uncle which was the event that pushed him to become a series killer. This episode used those two elements and even though this CM episode quickly moved into other areas, and maybe it was just me, the pacing just seemed to fall off. Maybe I am used to CM's usual frantic pacing as they search for the week's serial killer, but this one just seemed to fall off for me. One thing I did notice is that they did give the Alex O'Loughlin character of Victor way more attention than they have other "guest" killers in the past. I am sure that was due to the fact that he is probably one of their biggest guest actors they have had. Most of the other guests have been actors we haven't seen in a while. I'll watch it again and see if it grows on me.

I watched the show. I'm not a fan of Criminal Minds but Alex did a fantastic job! He didn't have a lot of things to say but his face and body conveyed everything that needed to be said. It's a hard to find an actor who can be just as convincing without words than he can with the.
Go Alex!

I am a BIG fan of Alex O'Loughlin & also CM. Alex was amazing. He certainly knew how to play Vincent perfectly. The way he interacted with the boy was so tender. The ending was so sad and yet, it saved him from a trial and more pain. It was for the best. How good was he that we felt so sorry for a man who murdered so many. Didn't your heart hurt for him? Of course it was Alex and Alex always gets to us.

I loved Moonlight and was upset when it was cancelled. My question is if Alex O'Laughlin is so popular that CBS wanted to sign him to another series on their network and hyped his appearance on Criminal Minds (which I also love), then why the heck did they ever cancel Moonlight in the first place? Vampires are the "in" thing right now, they should have given it another shot.

Brilliant!! I am first and foremost an Alex O'Loughin fan. Mick St. John is only one role that he has done. He is a brilliant actor and his roles are as varied and wonderful as his talent. This is not an actor to dismiss as just another pretty face. He is an actor's actor.
Criminal Minds is a very good series and I have enjoyed watching it for a few seasons. It is always thought provoking and the cast is excellent. I enjoy watching every one of them.
The team of Alex combined with this show...Amazing and unforgettable! My heart is still in my throat and my jaw is still on the floor.
Thank you CM, Simon Mirren, Jake Cherry and last but not least Alex O'Loughlin for a stellar performance.
This will go into the archives of television history as one of the most memorable, heart clutching, gut wrenching episodes ever filmed. I still have a lump in my throat.
Surely this will be nominated and win the Emmy for best guest performance for a lead actor. They would be crazy, blind or both not to recognize the talent.
I am gobsmacked but obviously not speechless.
Thank you Alex and company for the night to remember.
My humble regards, Cindy R

In all the years Criminal Minds has been on the air, I have NEVER been disappointed by their writing or their main/guest actors. Just finished watching the Moonlight series, and have a great appreciation for Alex O'Loughlin, and he was excellent in last night's episode. But what keeps me coming back every week is the stellar regular cast members. They keep pushing the limits of their characters. This show is awesome.

Brilliant doesn't begin to cover Alex's performance - it was inspired - he becomes his roles. He is in definite contention for an Emmy nod as best guest actor.
He's not just another pretty face - this man can act!!!

A veritable tour de force performance from Alex.
He was mesmerising.
I hope that he now receives the recognition he truly deserves and that he's flooded with offers.
Perhaps now, people will appreciate what us "die-hards" have know for ages and that is, what an amazing actor Alex is.
Totally believable,so poignant, so powerful.
The young lad who played Stanley was fantastic too.
Thank you Simon for writing this with Alex in mind and thank you Alex. Bravo!

When I saw the promo for Criminal Minds the other night my jaw dropped! To go from the perpetually cool Mick St. John on Moonlight to Vincent the geeky, creepy OCD weirdo with the click click tic who's a serial killer... Talk about acting range! I've been watching Criminal Minds since the beginning and this is the first time I've ever seen them promote the one playing the serial killer. Now I've seen his role and I was right. Alex is definitely an actor that will be on the A list in Hollywood. He actually did the role of Vincent so well that he made you feel sorry for him. A serial killer no less. His performance was mesmerizing to say the least. And the angle on the redemptive process of Vincent was titillating. This is going to be a thrill ride for sure!

What was the technique that the blind boy and the Serial Killer was imitating? Spatial perception?

I believe it was called echo location? It's something dolphins do to locate where they are -- the clicking echoes off solid objects and they can determine how far away from it they are.
For those of you unfamiliar with Alex O'Loughlin, I highly suggest getting a DVD of Moonlight or Mary Bryant. This man is a brilliant actor and last night was living proof. Plus, he's not hard on the eyes -- am I right, Ladies? As many already mentioned, how often do you feel bad for the serial killer in CM? Just a great performance from beginning to end. I will admit it was slightly different from regular CMs due to little interaction between the BAU team and the unsub, but there was so much conveyed by Alex's performance and really very little said out loud. I am a fan of CM, and an even bigger (surprise) fan of Alex's and will continue to be a fan. Come on Three Rivers -- CBS please do something right for once!!
