So ... what did you think of the first part of NCIS' big spinoff episodes? "Legend" is the episode that serves as the spinoff launch for a new series starring Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J. Maybe this is the first step in an NCIS franchise, a la CSI. Let's hope not.

Well considering that NCIS is a spin off of JAG I think they're already on the way.
I liked the new team - though I don't think you can really judge a cast based on the introductory episode. What I've seen is that often in introductory episodes for spin offs or pilot episodes is that things are over done a bit to show off the new cast - some personalities are highlighted and other things that get toned down for the rest of the show. And with the case of spin offs and introduction episodes often the new team causes some kind of conflict for the old - so often there's resentment on the behalf of the old team.
Either way I'm definitely going to be watching the new show when it starts since I did like what I saw so far.

The diversity of characters is completely mssing in the new team. They also rely upon flashy playing with hand gesture operated screns. That coolness lasts one ep only.

They'll need to keep working to set this show apart,as they began doing last night.I'll reserve judgement for now as this is too new.Agree that tech alone isn't enough.Saw that tech on CNN.
For once an NCIS that looks like CA will be set there.I live in Virginia and see something really wrong every episode. There are no palm trees in Virginia Beach...
They will need to build the characters and try and find new stories for this to work.I find Louise Lombard's lisp difficult to put up with.

I will also reserve judgement, this story was rather all over the place with characters. I was not a fan of Louise Lombard, I would have liked the woman who was the army investigator that Gibbs had a relationship with, she was great and they were great together. I like the tech stuff, but this is undercover work so we shouldn't see that much of the fun tech stuff.

I love NCIS, but i couldn't really get into this episode, however I was busy cooking dinner and my reception was lousy. I plan on giving the spin off time to find their feet. It won't replace my love of the original but I'll watch it.

I liked the first show a lot.....it is going to depend on the writers. Good Luck, I hope it works out.

Didn't interest me at all. Everyone was too cool, too edgy and not different enough. Also the one thing that really sets NCIS apart is the sense that the characters really care for one another as a family. Gibbs would go to the bat for anyone of them. Abby is the brilliant mother hen who cares for his flock, Tony the smart ass brother, McGeek the smart brother, Ducky the eccentric grandpa. This group looked like criminal minds or something. Did not care for it at all - just another procedural.

I never watch NCIS, but I happened upon it last night and I really like it. I loved the tension between the Mark Harmon character and the blond woman in LA. I've also always liked Chris O'Donnell, and the tall guy who plays the psychologist is really funny and cute. I'm looking forward to checking out the next episode.

I like JJ Cool J, but the guy really didn't have much to do then stare intensely at a board. Also I don't think he can check his email let alone operate that cool ass annoying board.

Didn't interest me. I love NCIS, and I figured I'd give the spin-off a shot, but I must confess I was not sold. It seemed like they got stuck on, "Ooo, look at the pretty toys!" rather than make me care about the characters. With NCIS, it's all about the characters, for me. The spin-off characters seemed okay, but not that interesting, and the story was therefore nothing more than your average procedural.

I wasn't terribly impressed. I love NCIS, but it's the characters that make the show. The spinoff seems overly concerned with cool toys, and watching someone's fingers on a giant touchscreen gets old fast.
I thought Chris O'Donnell did a great job, and I'm a huge LLCJ fan, so I'm hoping part 2 gives the characters more depth and less flash.

Other than wanting to know what's up with Ziva, this episode left me pretty cold.

Yup, what you said. I love the characters of NCIS and even though I like Chris O'Donnel, I mostly forwarded on parts that weren't focusing on the good old NCIS team. Maybe when the show starts on it's own I'll give it a chance. Right now though, Ziva and her involvement with Michael is what made it interesting.

I wasn't aware this was the spin off so I watched it as just another team in the way of our team doing their job.
I don't like the lead, like someone before mentioned the investigator Gibbs knew before would have been better (I suspect they weren't able to get her) this woman leaves me cold. The only interesting thing she said in the entire show was telling O'Donnell's character she wanted to be there when he asked Gibbs about her past with him. Some of her comments came across as snarky, like telling O'Donnell's character he has no family when it was obvious (I thought) he meant the group.
I like the Mentalist so the psychologist amused me, I'll have to see how its played out though, as it can also get too deux machina.
Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J are ok, I think they need to do more with LLCJ, thise episode seemed to focus mostly on O'Donnell. Hopefully they aren't going to play it as LLCJ as a McGee type, I just can't see LLCJ as the team geek.
Well part two will add to the questions I am sure and having finally seen the JAG episodes things change, I'm not sure the series Abby would have been so meekly accepting when told how to dress (loved the judge's comment when her web finally was shown) still new characters take time to gel. I'll probably watch for awhile, then like the CSIs (LV, NYC yes; Miami, no) decide whether to continue.

Add me to the list of people who found the new cast "blah" As on NCIS fan I'll probably end up watching the first few episodes but I'm not expecting it to get much better.
Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J have both taken some hinky parts in the past but even then they had a certain gravitas about them. That was completely missing here. And what's with the head of the team. It seem like her character was written as "woman who sits stone faced for an hour while other people come in and explain what she's feeling for the audience"
All in all pretty lame. Oh, and as a gadget lover even I was annoyed by the tech.

Anyone find the hand-motion video screens look just like Tom Cruise's Minority report? Of course, LLCJ is much better.

Anyone remember the 2 part episodes of JAG that introduced us to NCIS? The NCIS characters were a lot different then too. I just recently watched it with, not having seen it before and I was amazed at how different it was (not just the sets for NCIS which also changed) but at the character differences. Tony kept hitting on Abby and Ducky was hitting on the female agent (Vivian Blackadder) who was young enough to be his granddaughter. They made a lot of changes between when that was written and what finally became NCIS when it launched in the fall. So give it time.
Something tells me the "cool" video screen that LL's character was manipulating will be replaced when the series starts on it's own as the budget won't allow them to use it that often.

I LOVE NCIS!
But there was nothing that held any interest for me in the spin-off with Chris 'Snoozzarama' O'Donnell. As much as I like Louise Lombard, this new series is definitely not even NEAR my radar.
