I was just over at TV Newser looking at the latest ratings for the cable news outlets. FOX News beats CNN and MSNBC combined all day, Nancy Grace has been beating Keith Olbermann lately, MSNBC has been beating CNN in primetime. On the networks, NBC is still ahead, followed by ABC and CBS. And that got me thinking: what do you watch for news now? I work from home and watch TV all day long, so I watch both CNN and FOX News. At night, I usually watch Katie Couric on CBS.How about you?

I watch all of the cable news networks, and the local news channels. I do regularly watch Fox News - not for news, of course, purely for entertainment. That Glen Beck is something special! Between him and Hannity, they're like news versions of Jerry Springer! MSNBC (they're too rational, i.e. boring, to have good ratings) and Fox are pretty one-sided. I think that CNN attempts to be the most neutral.

Ha, who are the thickies who watch Fox "News"? All of the news networks are bad, but Fox News is by far the worst.

YOU OBVIOUSLY DO NOT WATCH FOX NEWS OR YOU WOULD NOT OF MADE THAT COMMENT! WATCH IT FOR A WEEK STRAIGHT. A COUPLE OF HOURS A NIGHT. YOU'LL CHANGE YOUR MIND.
THERE IS A REASON WHY IT GETS VOTED THE BEST. O'REILLY HAS BEEN VOTED THE MOST WATCHED NEWS SHOW FOR OVER 100 MONTHS STRAIGHT.
I WORK FOR MY FAMILIES BUSINESS AND I GET TO WATCH THE NEWS ALL DAY LONG. FOX NEWS IS BY FAR THE BEST OUT THERE!
MSNBC IS BY FAR THE WORST! THEY ARE SO FAR LEFT!
THEY BASICALLY PULL OUT LOTION AND LICK THE T.V. SCREEN WHEN OBAMA APPEARS. PATHETIC!

FOX News is by far the most balanced news, and their ratings show it.

I don't live in the US, and therefore have options for news outside of Murdoch, GE or Time Warner.
You suggest I should try a new source for information?
When was the last time you did that Mike?

1. Fox shows Obama and his wife fist bumping each other and reports a story on that being a Terrorist Fist Jab.
2. Fox news states that John McCain should not be able to comment on torture because he has been tortured.
Those 2 things alone should prove that Fox news is not a news station it is a commenting on the news station.
And last but not least, talking about how MSNBS licks the screen when Obama is on? I have yet to see Bush or Cheney on any station other than Fox News. Why do you think that is? Because Fox is Fair and Balanced or because Fox will throw softballs and not ask any hard question?

Yeah, FOX News is completely editorial at this point, and they don't care. Just like MSNBC has gotten editorial. I don't understand how anyone watches FOX News myself, the lack of nuance and balance is so predictable. If you literally have to change the channel to see an alternate point of view that isn't marginalized, there's something wrong. At least Scarborough TRIES to practice some measure of intellectual honesty.

I watch local news for (duh) local news and CNN for national news. I watch Fox News and MSNBC for entertainment.

Anyone who gets their sole news from Fox News or MSNBC are ill informed in my opinion. I get a mix from both of those, and also web sources (CNN, MSNBC, dailybeast, reddit, fark, slashdot, drudge, WSJ, NYT, USAtoday)... a lot of reading, but I can get a good grasp on what's going on in 30 minutes. I watch MSNBC and Fox news for the entertainment factor mostly; it's not news, its just anchor commentary on those stations.

Exactly. Seems like a lot of people ONLY watch MSNBC or FOX News. And that doesn't help you get the news.
That being said, MSNBC is more balanced than FOX. I can name two really conservative voices that have a show and about 4-5 pundits that consistently present a conservative POV. FOX News doesn't even have Colmes around much anymore.

Internet, ABC, CNBC, NPR
...and I agree, Fox is a lot of things, but it's not news. They twist just about everything to meet their world view - which is fine, but it's not fair and balanced news reporting as they represent it.

Of course, we all know that CNN and MSNBC DON'T twist their news. Right?

Yes, because talking about "tea bagging" and giggling like school girls is the essence of hard-hitting news coverage.

Where in his post did he mention CNN or MSNBC?
I see where you're coming from, but the old "We might be bad, but the other side is worse!" argument is an awful approach.

It gets more interesting - and perhaps more difficult for the likes of you to appreciate.
So I'll use small words.
Not only is FOX NEWS the #1 cable news channel, FOX NEWS is #2 among ALL cable networks.
Face it, you are outnumbered.
(That means there's more of us than there are of you.)
Sleep well.

To hessian:
Just because its popular, doesn't mean its better. It just means FoxNews has learned to sway more lemmings than other networks can. Its the same techniques employed by Jerry Springer and "Married with Children" years ago. It appeals to you base desires and beliefs in a visceral way. Put simply, you turn the TV on, and you turn your brain off.
I refuse to read or watch opinion pieces in print or on TV, because I don't want someone telling me what to think or believe ... That's for me to decide. I don't need Bill O'Reilly or Keith Olbermann or Jon Stewart to tell me that I should be outraged about something.
This is why I will never watch FoxNews or MSNBC or any other show which features talking heads screaming at one another. To me, anyone relying on these networks for news demonstrates a sign of either low intelligence or laziness.
