(S18E10) As tonight's episode of Survivor started, I prayed to the gods that it wouldn't be Coach-centric. Alas, there was plenty of Coach spouting his wisdom, his Warrior Alliance theories, and his general Coach-isms. After all, he is the Dragon Slayer, y'know. I so wish this Little Lord Fauntleroy Willie Nelson oddly-attired man would vanish from my television set. Maybe tonight?
Everybody hates Sierra
And I'm not so sure why they do. Tyson has had a chip on his shoulder about her for the entire game so far. Coach's latest reason to dismiss her is because she betrayed him. Debbie is sticking with Coach and Tyson, even though she has to realize she can't be a part of the alpha male Warrior Alliance without drastic surgery. Erinn is more of a wild card. She was Coach's first target and she's not likely to forget that. Then again, it's not her neck on the chopping block. She has no loyalty to the Timbira folks at all.
Ex-Jalapao folks don't hate Sierra, per se. But they're happy that anyone else is a target rather than their own diminished tribe members. I'm really not getting some of the cruelty to Sierra from the Timbira people. I mean, it's kind of like kicking Drew Barrymore or something. She's not a shining star to the tribe, but we've all seen worse.
What? A new puzzle?
If Survivor is on, I'm going to watch it. However, that doesn't mean that I can't whine now and then about the challenge they're facing and how they're trying to keep the challenges fresh and new. I thought I was puzzled out, but tonight's reward challenge had a new concept. It's way too puzzling to describe here. But if they keep doing puzzles, new approaches like tonight's reward are welcomed.
The immunity challenge was a bit of a throwback -- Survivor shuffleboard. The elements added a nice touch. Once again, Jeff told the castaways that they could feast if they felt safe from being voted out. Who ate? That smug Coach, JT, and Stephen. Poor Stephen looks like he's starving and most seem to think of him as some sort of non-entity. Coach just about freaked when it looked like his target Sierra might win immunity. Thankfully, Tyson didn't win it again; it was a Debbie win.
Erinn, Taj, and Stephen and bye-bye mean boy
Then things got rich. Erinn doesn't mind if Sierra gets voted out, but knows she'd be the next target of the Testosterone Boys. So, she gets with Taj and Stephen ... and voila! Tyson doesn't have immunity, they can blindside him. What I was very surprised about was that JT went along with the plan even after he shook hands with Coach on voting out Sierra.
The blindside of Tyson is one for the books. Words cannot describe my joy when it went down. Sure, Coach is an annoying person and I could rant about him for days. But Tyson is outright mean. Perhaps he's funny with his silly dances and naked butt around camp, but that doesn't make up for his cruelness to Sierra. I'm not a huge Sierra fan, either. I don't like bullies. Tyson is a bully. Plus, he's good at challenges. It was the best move in the game so far. And ... I got to see Coach's reaction. I'm still smirking.

I was so bored with this episode that I considered skipping to the last few seconds on the DVR to confirm that Sierra was voted out. It seemed like a foregone conclusion. I'm so happy that I sat through what essentially was Sierra crying about her former alliance for 30 minutes. It made the blindside at the end so much more satisfying.

As the show began, and we got to see coach doing his dragon-water ballet I was not looking forward to him dangling sierra over the fire about her last vote.
As the show went on and I was absolute about sierras impending snuff out, the immunity challenge was my only hope for the poor girl, and when she got so close and lost I knew she was toast.
Untill Tysons name came up as the potential vote out and I yelled "do it, my god, do it now!" If they did it it would truly be a huge blindside and thats what this show is about, having the balls to do that!
At tribal council when coach was talking about his warrior Bullsquat and fighting worthy opponents and Jeff called him on it, I was praying "cut this cheeseslayer down a notch or two, vote out his partner"
Now about tyson, he was mean, but man was he funny and I knew he had to go. I kept saying "its not going to happen, sierras gone" and when tysons name showed up twice, then three times? I knew my prayers had been answered. THE LOOK ON HIS FACE! THE LOOK ON COACHS FACE, heck THE LOOK ON DEBS face was unreal and wonderful. the look EXCHANGED from deb to coach was hilarious!
BUT the look on Sierras face? was pure golden and I am so glad that it happened the way it did.

I commented at the beginning of the episode how it's always the smug, no-chance-it's-me types like Tyson that get popped in the end. And then, sure enough. If you don't think you're going home, that probably means you're the one on the chopping block.
This show never gets old!

I loved the looks of confusion and then realization on Ben (I refuse to call him Coach) and Tyson's faces while the votes were tallied. And how great was Sierra's look of surprise when she got to stay. As far as the challenges go, I prefer those that are more physical but that minor detail will not stop me from watching Survivor season after season after season.

The power base has now shifted. Coach's position of power is in the crapper. JT/Steven/Taj took back the numbers, and with Errin & Sierra having joined them, "Coach ala Douche" is going home long before he anticipated.

I'm always happy when the contestants actually take advantage of an opportunity like this.
Jeff calling out Coach at TC was freaking priceless.

Sierra was my favorite in this (not to win, just drawn to her) since the beginning of the season. I don't know why, or what it is, but I've been rooting for her the hardest of anyone. And watching her face as Tyson's name continued being read over and over last night .... I mean it was the best moment of the season for me, hands down.
Given how they twist the previews to show what is likely the total opposite, Sierra could be gone next week now, but the thought of Coach at her mercy playing for his life? Oh man, it can't get here soon enough.

It was almost uncomfortable to watch Sierra plead for her life and getting cut down even further for it. But it set up a pretty epic tribal council. I love this show!
It felt so good to see Tyson go. Jeff P. has said in interview that it's a record-breaking number of blindsides this season, and with the slow start, I can only imagine the amount of power shifts that will occur going forward. I don't think JT or Stephen should be as confident as they are in their place.
It's nice to see such a huge number of power players this season who are willing to make some big moves to get them ahead. Even those I thought would ride coattails like Erinn are playing to win. To think that at the merge, this could've gone down really predictably, and to see what is happening is exciting.
Now that Coach is bottom of the barrel,

This season and last season have had great tribal councils. Seems contestants have learned lessons from season's past that you have to vote with your head and not with your heart. I thought last nights vote was going to be for Sierra because prior to last season voting became predictable. People voting with their conscience thinking they were sticking with their alliance was going to do them some good. Even though the numbers were stacked against them. Awesome move last night!! I hope this alliance sticks together until Coach is gone. Then it will be 3 from each tribe fighting it out to the end!

I wanted to do handstands after this episode and 30 years younger, I would have. Mean ol' Tyson is gone and it's looking like the dragonslayer's days are numbered. His mouthy flames just went pffft!
Errin made a move and changed the whole game and thank goodness J.T. went along with the plan.
There were so many great moments, but when TAJ crossed her eyes at Coach's latest spoutings of his own greatness, I felt she spoke for 99 o/o of Survivor's fans.

Speaking of Erinn ... is it possible that out of everyone, she's the one who's really playing this game the right way? I mean think back, she was first on Coach's chopping block way back when, and since then she's been relatively immune to even being discussed as someone to be sent home. She hasn't really made alliances, she hasn't tried manipulation THAT much, and when the moment of truth came she swung the vote to send Tyson home. I mean really, she isn't on anyone's radar, and while I know that can change in the blink of an eye, if they continue taking down the strongest and stabbing one another in the back, she could just sit back and walk right in to the Final 4, if not even farther than that.

And poor Coach, the only thing he didn't do while on his great trek in the Amazon years ago, was line up hole-y boards together. Otherwise, God knows, he would have won instead of being stuck eating pizza!

man, am I the only one who really likes Coach? Coach should have his own travel show where he just rambles on about samurais and warriors and amazonian jungle tribes and I would be hooked. This show is gonna be boring as hell once he's gone.
