Grey's Anatomy: Sweet Surrender

(S05E20) "Someone will be singing 'Wind Beneath My Freaking Wings'" - Meredith

Why does ABC have to mention that Grey's Anatomy has some of the best storylines on television? If that is true, that must mean that Private Practice has the worst. The episode was good, but the long wait got me jaded.

The show does better when Meredith isn't the center of the show. Even with her as the narrator, she succeeded only as a model for Izzie and a mediator between Derek and Mark. Speaking of which, Lexie was hysterical the whole episode. I thought it was so obscene that she kept eating something different in every shot that she was in. Sure they mentioned that she broke out, but couldn't the makeup team add a lump or two? I didn't see one thing wrong with her face.

So, they've finally planted the seeds for the big George story-arc. I thought the psychotic patient was unrealistic. The fact that he could just get up and jump out of a window without someone stopping him is just a horrible sign for the quality level of Seattle Grace. If we had to go with psychotic and unrealistic, have him land on George. I've been to hospitals, and I thought that most windows were bulletproof. I appreciate that George tried to take the guy's pulse.

At the moment, I can't stand Izzie's storyline. I appreciated Christina's concern for Izzie, but Izzie is turning into the boy who cried wolf. Manipulating people into getting her way is wrong. If her friends are true friends, she won't have to fake death to get their attention. Creating a façade of strength and positivity is one thing, but the next moment faking a turn for the worst is cold and careless. I couldn't believe that someone would play the Cancer card.

Going back to the makeup department, why can't Izzie go around with a skullcap covering her hair to just pretend that she's gotten treatment? Everyone else in the cancer ward had no hair. Izzie would be getting glares from me if I was there. I truly think the show's art department has gotten lazy.

Then we get to Callie. Hearing her complain in Spanish is amazing. Watching her father turn Mark and George into tomatoes was classic. I loved Callie's father's gumption, but he needed to take a step back; she's not 12. I doubt that going to Miami to be with her family will fix her lesbianism. I wouldn't be worried about a trust fund if I had a steady job as a doctor, shared my apartment, and my college bills were all paid off. The people in Seattle Grace have become her real family, and if she saved her money correctly, she should be fine right now.

Arizona was a great support for Callie, but yet she quit on her own patient. Arizona was so chipper and positive about every situation that seeing her give up felt out of character. I appreciate Bailey showing her maternal instincts; the pet peeve is that she's not spending time with her own family and making memories. There's something wrong about Bailey cradling the child; doesn't it break some sort of doctor/patient agreement? What made it worse was that Jessica's father had a blind eye towards the whole situation. If I walked into the room, I would be upset that someone is holding my daughter.

I don't even care about how unrealistic this show is becoming; I'm just excited that I don't have to wait another three weeks for a new episode.
