(S02E21) "I think I need a lawyer." - Serena to CyrusIf it weren't for the final scene of the episode, I would have probably classified this week's Gossip Girl installment as one of the most boring of the season. I think what rubbed me the wrong way is that Blair and Serena were their old selves most of the episode and that Dorotea was on vacation (let's hope it was with that nice doorman from last episode). What definitely bored me to death was anything Serena-related in the episode since I'm getting extremely tired of her self-centered attitude, of the lying and using Dan to do so, and of her asking for freedom while not being willing to abide by some common sense rules (like asking for permission before running away across the world during a school week).
But that last scene made me feel oh so much better, especially since it will more than likely mean that Serena will get in some serious troubles and will definitely need a lawyer in the weeks to come. Looks like Armie Hammer, who portrays Gabriel, is playing the Devil's son both on Reaper and on Gossip Girl, no?
Let's get right to it. It's clear that Poppy and Gabriel have not broken up. I also believe that Serena and Gabriel got married. I don't buy his "I could have woken up the gardener" scenario. It wouldn't surprise me that the Serena and Gabriel wedding isl part of plan Poppy and Gabriel came up with. My hunch is that Gabriel is in some type of trouble that could be partially solved by getting married and putting all the blame on his spouse. Of course, he couldn't marry Poppy as it would have put her in jeopardy so they chose to have him wed Serena so everything would fall on her. What I don't know is what their plan is. It probably involves money though. Do you think my theory is right? Do you have another theory? Do you know what their plan could be? If so, share your theories and ideas in comments below.
As for the other characters, the ending of the episode pretty much left everyone where they were at the beginning. Nate and Blair are together and Chuck is alone. Both Blair and Nate do look like they are willing to make some changes but I'm pretty sure their old selves will come back sooner or later even if they are not at Yale.
The only major difference is that Rufus was able to sell some art to help pay for Dan's tuition and he decided it was time for a career change. I wonder what Rufus will do next. Since he probably won't return to music, this turn of events will allow us to learn more about Rufus, what he likes, his talents, etc.
I hope that Dan keeps his catering/waiter job as it would allow the writers to put the him in new settings and introduce new characters. It's about time Dan gets in a serious relationship with someone who is his age and not Serena. How about that waitress?
For those of you wanting to keep tabs on where the characters will go to school next season:
- Serena: Brown or Yale
- Dan: Yale (if he can pay the tuition)
- Blair: NYU (if she does well at her interview)
- Nate: Columbia
- Chuck: Will he even graduate?
- Vanessa: Will she go to school next season? Is she done with her homeschooling?
What did you think of the episode? Were you as bored as I was? Would you prefer all characters end up at the same school or that they are in different ones so that new characters and interactions are introduced? Don't be shy, share your ideas with us.
There are four episodes left this season, one will be that spin-off one featuring a younger Lily.

i was bored too with this episode. i thought it was just me, because i was Facebooking at the same time, but glad to know i can still multitask.
i do disagree with you on the Poppy theory. while i think that Gabriel did lie about them not being married (he looks too slimy to trust), i do not think Poppy is as invovled. she looked some kinda way when she saw that Serena called.
Dorota, like i thought, did end up with the doorman. when Eleanor was talking about the Seder, she mentioned that she should not have let Dorota off for the weekend, because she fell in love with Vanya (the doorman) and only thinks of herself.

Poppy is totally a part of this. She looked at the phone like, "ha tell me how are plan came together"
She is not nice, I thought that from the beginning!

I guess the show didn't have me on the edge of my seat, because I couldn't help but to wonder why Flo Rida was the background music for the Sader.

i think its awesome that chuck apologized to jenny. its weird that it took him realizing he slept with some girl before & then jenny telling him off so get his head out of his ass. who the hell gets all weird after they realize they already slept with someone?

Actually I think that was a plot on another tv show recently - oh wait, OMG, it was 2 1/2 Men. But in my defense, I was in South America, showering with the tv on in the background and that was the only english language show on. I swear I woudn't voluntarily watch it...

Granted, I don't think it was MAJORYLY HUGE, but I don't agree with "As for the other characters, the ending of the episode pretty much left everyone where they were at the beginning" considering Chuck's apology to Jenny.

yeah the ep bored me too. Underutilization of Shawn Wallace as usual. I vote for Serena to be kicked off the island.

I had a lot of fun with this episode. Maybe it was because of the seder setting, but I thought it was really fun to see that.
There has been some major developments during the episode. For starters, Nate and Blair make a lot more sense as a couple now. Blair was willing to sacrifice her future for Nate while he got over his anger and saw her as the new and improved version of herself. That's a major evolution!
Rufus decided to sell his gallery and the seeds for what's going to be the major arc for the end of the season in my opinion were set.
Last, but not least, Chuck's apology to Jenny. This is extraordinarily huge. It happened in the first episode!
As for Dorota, Eleanor mentionned that she was now dating Vania. Mystery solved!

I rather enjoyed this episode - although I like the dramatic scenes filled with betrayal, secrets, half-truths etc.
It can get tiring for Serena to always be accidently in trouble, Blair to be constantly selfish, Dan to be righteous, Jenny to be taken advantage of, Chuck to be excessive and Nate wanting to be taken seriously. Okay, not sure about the Nate thing.... but anyway- it is nice to have a 'happy' episode where for once, the characters are just kind-of breezing along normally.
This episode showed the characters are acting differently then they normally act - very cool.
Life CANNOT always be heartache and pain - even on Gossip Girl. I can't wait for next week.

The highlight of the episode was the scenes between Chuck and Jenny - especially the apology one (Ed's acting was amazing). This was one of the few times that I liked Jenny actually.
